Job Posting Organization:
The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is an intergovernmental treaty established under the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment). The CMS aims to conserve terrestrial, aquatic, and avian migratory species throughout their range. The organization has been operational since its inception and currently has 133 Parties, including 132 countries and the European Union, that have become Contracting Parties to the Convention. The CMS Secretariat is located at the United Nations headquarters in Bonn, Germany, and maintains close institutional and programmatic linkages with its instruments, which are often collectively referred to as the 'CMS Family'.

Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed for individuals who are interested in gaining practical experience in the field of information management, communication, and awareness-raising related to migratory species conservation. Interns will work under the supervision of the IMCA Coordinator and collaborate with other members of the Unit. The internship is unpaid and can last from three to six months, with the possibility of starting at any time in 202
  • Interns will be involved in various tasks that align with their background and the needs of the Unit, contributing to the production of communication materials and supporting outreach activities for international meetings and campaigns.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will assist in a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: producing communication and information management products for CMS and AEWA; generating content for websites managed by the Unit; developing audio-visual and multimedia products for publication on social media; assisting in the implementation of the World Migratory Bird Day Campaign; managing social media channels; conducting research for press/media-related work; maintaining databases and filing systems; and performing any other tasks as requested by the IMCA Coordinator. The responsibilities are designed to provide interns with a comprehensive understanding of the communication strategies and outreach efforts of the CMS.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or have graduated with a university degree and must commence the internship within one year of graduation. Preferred areas of study include communications, media studies, international relations, journalism, social sciences, and environmental studies. Candidates should also demonstrate competencies in website content management, graphic design, video editing, and social media management.

Educational Background:
A degree in communications, media studies, international relations, journalism, or related fields is preferred. Candidates with backgrounds in social sciences, including sociology, political science, and environmental studies, are also encouraged to apply. The internship is particularly suited for those who have a keen interest in environmental issues and the work of the United Nations.

Experience:
Candidates should have relevant experience in communications, media, or related fields. Experience with website content management systems, graphic design, video editing, and social media management is highly desirable. Writing skills and the ability to draft articles or social media posts for specialized audiences are also important.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an advantage, and knowledge of Portuguese is also beneficial.

Additional Notes:
This internship is in-person and full-time, lasting a minimum of three months and a maximum of six months. Interns must express their desired start and end dates in their cover letter. While the internship is primarily in-person, there may be exceptional circumstances where parts of the internship can be undertaken remotely due to visa or travel constraints. Interns are not financially compensated by the United Nations, and they are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. The United Nations does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
