Job Overview: The Access and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security-manager" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Manager position is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of Mercy Corps staff in Gaza. The role involves monitoring the security situation, enforcing security regulations, and providing timely advice to staff and management. The manager will coordinate access within Gaza and oversee capacity building for field staff. This position is designed to support the rotation of staff in Gaza and provide technical guidance in safety, security, and access matters. The manager will also work closely with program teams to assess the feasibility of operations in new or changing locations, ensuring that all staff are informed and supported in their safety and operational security.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Access and Security Manager will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: serving as interim surge support to the Mercy Corps team in Gaza; providing technical support and guidance on safety, security, and access; ensuring compliance with Mercy Corps' Security Management framework; managing security protocols for facilities; evaluating and updating evacuation plans; compiling security reports; conducting security training for staff; and establishing communication protocols. The manager will also identify barriers to access and support program teams in developing strategies to mitigate these barriers, ensuring that humanitarian access approaches are integrated into design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and implementation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Access and Security Manager position should possess a strong background in security management, particularly in humanitarian contexts. They should have a deep understanding of security protocols and risk assessment methodologies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and have the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. Experience in training and capacity building is essential, as well as the ability to adapt to changing environments and challenges.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as security management, international relations, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in security management or related fields are preferred and will be considered an asset.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in security management, particularly in humanitarian or development contexts. Experience working in conflict-affected areas, especially in the Middle East, is highly desirable. Proven experience in managing security operations and conducting risk assessments is essential for this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both spoken and written. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local staff and stakeholders. Additional languages may be considered an asset, depending on the context of operations.
Additional Notes: This position may involve a full-time commitment and could require flexibility in working hours due to the nature of the work.
