Job Overview:
The Culture Programme Coordinator position at UNESCO Brasilia Office (UBO) is a pivotal role that involves overseeing and coordinating projects related to the Culture Programme Area. The incumbent will work under the authority of the Director and Representative of UBO and will directly report to the Culture Programme Coordinator. This role requires a proactive approach to project execution, technical cooperation, and the development of partnerships with various stakeholders, including public, private, and academic institutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for mapping out development stages of cultural topics, preparing action plans, and ensuring the effective implementation and evaluation of projects. The position demands a strong understanding of UNESCO's mandate in culture and the ability to provide technical and operational inputs for project design and execution. The incumbent will also be involved in national negotiations and fundraising efforts, contributing to the sustainability and expansion of UNESCO's cultural initiatives in Brazil.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Culture Programme Coordinator include:
  • Planning: Assist the CLT Programme Coordinator in identifying development stages of cultural topics and technical cooperation needs in Brazil. Contribute to the preparation of UBO's planning documents and propose annual action plans for specific themes.
  • Technical Cooperation: Define project requirements, prepare project proposals, and manage technical cooperation agreements. Monitor project implementation and provide technical guidance to ensure alignment with UNESCO's objectives.
  • National Negotiations and Fundraising: Attend meetings, conduct negotiations with donors, and identify opportunities for new project agreements, particularly with the private sector.
  • Management: Plan and control work progress, supervise Programme Assistants, and ensure the completion of duties related to the projects under his/her responsibility.
  • Communication: Prepare technical presentations, reports, and documents as required, and organize UNESCO publications.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Analyze project outcomes, provide feedback, and ensure continuous improvement in project execution.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (equivalent to a Master's or Post-graduate studies) in International Relations, Social Sciences, or Culture-related fields. Additionally, candidates should have a strong sense of ethics, initiative, creativity, and the ability to work under pressure. Proficiency in project management and technical cooperation is essential, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusivity in their work.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as International Relations, Social Sciences, or Culture. Specialized training or courses related to the position are considered desirable and may enhance a candidate's application.

Experience:
Candidates should have four to six years of relevant work experience, particularly in planning and implementing development programs and projects within governmental or non-governmental institutions. Experience in managing technical cooperation projects at both national and international levels is highly valued. Previous involvement in cultural heritage, museums, or collections will be advantageous.

Languages:
Proficiency in Portuguese and English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of another official UNESCO language, such as French or Spanish, is considered a valuable asset.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time position with a contract duration of one year, subject to renewal based on budgetary availability and satisfactory performance. The monthly remuneration for this role is BRL 16,368.99, paid in local currency. The working hours are Monday to Thursday from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and Friday from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Candidates must be entitled to work in Brazil to apply for this position.
