Job Overview: The Junior Programme Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Social Territories Programme, which focuses on enhancing urban living conditions in various communities in Rio de Janeiro. The assistant will be responsible for providing both technical and administrative support, facilitating communication between the programme teams and local partners, and documenting various programme-related activities. This role is essential for maintaining the programme's momentum and ensuring that it meets its deadlines, budgetary constraints, and quality expectations. The Junior Programme Assistant will also be expected to engage in training and development activities to enhance their skills and knowledge relevant to the position.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Junior Programme Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: 1) Providing technical support to implement activities related to the Social Territories Programme; 2) Facilitating communication between the programme teams and local partners, including local governments and civil society organizations; 3) Documenting meetings, forums, consultations, and training events related to the programme; 4) Supporting the execution of technical and administrative activities to ensure compliance with deadlines and quality standards; 5) Maintaining organized and accessible information files; 6) Performing ad hoc activities and other duties as requested by the supervisor; 7) Completing all required training, including the BSAFE security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security course from UNDSS, within the first month of employment; 8) Ensuring compliance with United Nations security mechanisms and maintaining personal security; 9) Preparing monthly activity reports for approval by the Head of Brazil Office.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a High School Diploma, along with at least two additional years of relevant experience beyond the educational requirement. A minimum of one year of professional or academic experience in project or programme management, or administrative roles is required. Experience related to urban data in Brazil is desirable, as is previous work within the UN System or other international agencies. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and online research tools, as well as familiarity with technological tools and software.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position includes a High School Diploma. Candidates with additional relevant experience beyond this educational requirement will be considered favorably. The role emphasizes the importance of practical experience in project management and administrative functions, particularly in urban development contexts.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of one year of professional or academic experience in project or programme management or administrative roles. Experience in urban data themes in Brazil is considered an asset, as is prior experience working within the UN System or other international organizations. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to manage tasks effectively and contribute to programme implementation.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary working language in Brazil. Additionally, working knowledge of Spanish and/or English is desirable, given that English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, and Spanish is used in the Regional Office.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is expected to last for three months, with the possibility of renewal depending on performance and funding availability. The role is local, meaning that only Brazilian nationals or candidates with a permanent visa in Brazil may apply. The remuneration for this position is set at R$ 2,734.54 according to the UNDP Brazil Salary Scale.
