Established to address urban challenges, UN-Habitat collaborates with various stakeholders, including governments and civil society, to implement the Habitat Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. The organization operates globally, with a significant presence in Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly through its Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. UN-Habitat has expanded its initiatives in Brazil, focusing on urban poverty reduction and social equity, particularly through partnerships with local authorities and organizations like Instituto Pereira Passos (IPP).

Job Overview:
The Junior Communications and Cultural Production Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Social Territories Programme, which aims to integrate vulnerable urban populations into the city's fabric. This position involves close collaboration with UN-Habitat's operational and technical teams to document and disseminate information about the Programme's activities. The assistant will be responsible for managing publication activities, promoting advocacy materials, and coordinating coverage of workshops and events. This role is essential for ensuring that the Programme's impact is effectively communicated to stakeholders and the public, thereby enhancing the visibility and understanding of UN-Habitat's work in Rio de Janeiro.

Candidates should demonstrate strong computer skills, particularly in Windows, Word, Excel, and web search engines. Knowledge of project management methodologies is also beneficial. Competencies required for this role include professionalism, planning and organization, effective communication, teamwork, and knowledge management. The ability to work in a multicultural environment and respect diversity is essential.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma. However, candidates with additional relevant experience beyond the educational requirement will be considered favorably. This indicates that while formal education is important, practical experience in related fields can compensate for a lack of advanced educational qualifications.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have prior experience in communications and cultural production, which is considered desirable. Experience within the UN System is also seen as advantageous. This suggests that the role is suited for individuals who have a foundational understanding of project management and urban governance, as well as experience working in inter-institutional environments.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, given the local context and the need for effective communication with stakeholders. Working knowledge of Spanish and/or English is desirable, reflecting the multilingual environment of the United Nations and the Regional Office.

Additional Notes:
This position is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is expected to last for three months, with the possibility of renewal depending on performance and funding availability. The role is local, meaning that only Brazilian nationals or candidates with a permanent visa in Brazil may apply. The contract extension is not guaranteed and is subject to the availability of funds. The remuneration for this position follows the SB-1/2 UNDP Brazil Salary Scale. All applications must be submitted in English and include a cover memo, educational background, professional experience, and other relevant information.
