Job Overview:
The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Executive Director (ED) of MSF Access is tasked with ensuring that access to essential medical tools is prioritized within MSF's social mission. This position is pivotal in leading the strategic direction and institutional management of MSF Access, which focuses on improving healthcare access for underserved populations. The ED will work closely with the Deputy Executive Director (DED) to implement the vision and strategy of MSF Access, ensuring that the organization effectively addresses the challenges faced by patients and operational teams. The role involves high-level external representation, engaging with global health discussions, and fostering partnerships to enhance MSF's access initiatives. The ED will also oversee the management of the MSF Access team and ensure alignment with MSF's broader goals and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Executive Director include:
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the MSF Access Strategic Plan, ensuring alignment with MSF's overall mission.
  • Governance and Accountability: Report to the MSF Access Executive Board on strategic progress, performance, and budgetary matters.
  • External Representation: Represent MSF Access in global health discussions and cultivate partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • Internal Management: Oversee the management of MSF Access functions, ensuring effective coordination and communication within the team.
  • Risk Mitigation: Develop and implement strategies to identify and mitigate risks associated with MSF Access initiatives.
  • Continuous Improvement: Promote processes for reflection and learning within the organization to enhance effectiveness and impact.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Executive Director position must possess strong leadership skills, with a proven track record in strategic management and governance. They should have experience in the humanitarian sector, particularly in health access issues, and demonstrate the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders at high levels. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential, along with a commitment to MSF's values and mission. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of global health challenges and the ability to navigate complex political environments.

Educational Background:
A relevant advanced degree in public health, international relations, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates with additional qualifications in management or leadership will be preferred. A strong academic background that demonstrates a commitment to humanitarian principles and practices is essential.

Experience:
The Executive Director should have at least 10 years of relevant experience in leadership roles within the humanitarian sector, with a focus on health access and policy advocacy. Experience working in diverse cultural contexts and managing teams in complex environments is crucial. Candidates should also have a history of successful engagement with governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as experience in strategic planning and implementation.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in French or Spanish is highly desirable. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to MSF's operational contexts will be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
This position is based in one of the five MSF Access Regional Hubs, with a strong preference for Rio de Janeiro. The contract duration is a minimum of three years, extendable by an additional three years, subject to MSF practices and national labor laws. The start date is preferred for the beginning of Q2 2026, with some flexibility based on individual circumstances. Compensation and benefits will be aligned with MSF's practices in the respective entity establishing the contract.
