Job Overview:

The intern will provide support in advising the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) on global food security, transformation of agricultural and food systems, and responsible fisheries and aquaculture. The role involves engaging with GIZ programs in partner countries, collaborating at the EU level, and integrating food security into both German and international development cooperation discussions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As an intern, you will assist with tasks related to the sector project on 'Global Agendas of Food Security'. Your responsibilities will include providing technical support in advising on global processes such as the Committee on World Food Security, G7, G20, and the Sustainable Development Goal 2 'Zero Hunger'. You will conduct research and compile important updates on current developments in global food security, prepare analyses and summaries, document events, webinars, and meetings, and support data preparation and reporting. Additionally, you will help develop conceptual ideas in the field.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should be enrolled in their studies from the third semester onwards in fields such as International Relations, Political Science, Development Economics, Agricultural or Nutritional Sciences, or related disciplines. Knowledge in areas related to food security, agricultural transformation, and agricultural policy is essential. Previous experience in international and/or German development cooperation is desirable, and having international experience is a plus. Strong writing and research skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are crucial. Proficiency in data handling and Excel is advantageous.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, specifically in fields such as International Relations, Political Science, Development Economics, Agricultural Sciences, or related areas. Candidates should be at least in their third semester of study to qualify for this internship.

Experience:
While prior experience in the field of international development is preferred, it is not mandatory. However, candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in multilateral processes and human rights-based approaches in development cooperation. Any previous internships or volunteer work in related areas will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in German, both spoken and written, is mandatory. Additionally, candidates should possess very good English language skills. Knowledge of other languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

The internship is full-time and is available only to candidates who are currently enrolled in a study program that requires an internship or who have graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship. The duration of the internship is from May 15, 2025, to November 14, 202
