Job Description
Job Posting Organization:

Job Overview:
The Public intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Information Intern will work within the Education Outreach Section of the Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications, specifically supporting the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) initiative. This initiative aims to engage higher education institutions with the UN to promote and realize its goals, including human rights, education access, sustainability, and conflict resolution. The internship is designed to be full-time, in-person in New York City, with a duration of 4 to 6 months. Interns will be supervised by a UN staff member and may have the opportunity to work in a hybrid or remote setting based on their needs. The role is unpaid and requires a commitment of 35 hours per week, although part-time arrangements may be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will assist the UNAI team with various tasks, including conducting internet research on thematic issues related to UNAI’s principles, such as the Sustainable Development Goals and Human Rights. They will be responsible for producing, drafting, formatting, editing, and posting original content for the UNAI website, including news stories, graphics, and videos. Additionally, interns will create social media content for UNAI's accounts on platforms like X and LinkedIn, assist in planning and organizing lectures and events, maintain UNAI databases, and provide general office support, which includes processing correspondence, organizing meetings, and maintaining files.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, or international relations. While professional work experience is not required, a relevant field of study is necessary. Applicants should also have good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, and demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in their final year of a bachelor's degree program or have completed a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application. The educational background should be closely related to the internship's focus area, such as communication, media studies, or international relations.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. Skills in writing, social media, and multimedia production are strongly desired, and an assessment of writing skills may be conducted prior to an interview.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of another UN official language, such as French, is desirable. The UN Secretariat recognizes six official languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish, and proficiency in any of these languages can be beneficial for the role.

The internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents may need to obtain a G-4 visa to undertake the internship.
