Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is a prominent organization established over 50 years ago, functioning as a company of the German Federal Government. GIZ is dedicated to supporting the implementation of development policy goals on a global scale. With a presence in 120 countries, GIZ collaborates with various partner organizations to engage in a diverse range of projects aimed at fostering sustainable development and addressing global challenges. The organization is committed to creating a better life for everyone and providing purposeful tasks for its employees, making it an ideal workplace for individuals looking to make a meaningful impact in the world.

Job Overview:
The internship in the global project NDC Assist II offers a unique opportunity to engage with international climate policy, specifically focusing on the Paris Agreement and its objectives to limit global warming. Interns will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in developing and emerging countries. The position is designed to provide interns with insights into the operational aspects of GIZ's internal and external structures, as well as the workings of a global project. Interns will be involved in various project components, particularly those related to Carbon Markets and Private Adaptation Finance, and will assist in coordinating activities with partner countries, thereby contributing to climate protection and sustainable development efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a wide range of tasks that include organizing trainings and workshops on carbon markets and private adaptation finance, managing invitations and travel arrangements for international participants, and providing technical support during these events. They will also coordinate meetings with political partners in the partner countries, prepare content for stakeholder meetings, and assist in the communication efforts of the project by drafting official documents such as project update reports and newsletters. Additionally, interns will conduct research and develop technical documents related to climate action, adaptation to climate change, and international climate policy, while also supporting GIZ's data and knowledge management efforts for the project.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess experience working in intercultural settings and demonstrate effective communication skills with various stakeholder groups. While prior practical experience, particularly in project management support or communication, is welcomed, it is not mandatory. Interns should exhibit analytical thinking, a structured working style, and strong oral and written communication abilities. Familiarity with development cooperation, administrative sciences, or regulatory policy is essential, and knowledge of climate policy is considered an advantage. The ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and remain organized under pressure is crucial for success in this role.

Educational Background:
Applicants must be currently enrolled as students or have graduated no longer than six months prior to the start of the internship. This requirement ensures that candidates are in touch with current academic trends and practices, which is vital for the internship's focus on climate policy and development cooperation.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not strictly required, any practical experience, especially in project management, communication, or stakeholder engagement, is highly valued. Interns should be prepared to demonstrate their ability to work effectively in diverse environments and manage tasks independently.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the project. Proficiency in German is advantageous but not required. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages will enhance the intern's contributions to the project and interactions with stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The internship is a full-time position with an assignment period from May 12, 2025, to November 11, 202
  • GIZ offers a monthly stipend of €2,205.01 (gross) to support interns during their tenure. The organization is committed to diversity and inclusion, welcoming applications from individuals with disabilities and promoting equal opportunities for all candidates.
