Job Overview:
The Political intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Affairs Intern will support the United Nations Operations and Crisis Centre (UNOCC) by engaging in assignments within the Research and Liaison Unit (RLU) or the Prevention Team. The role is designed to provide interns with hands-on experience in cross-pillar analysis, research, and data-driven services that inform senior UN leadership. Interns will focus on integrating various perspectives such as peace and security, humanitarian efforts, and sustainable development into their work. The internship is expected to last between 3 to 6 months, with opportunities for both full-time and part-time engagement, and can be conducted either remotely or in-person. This position is part of a General Job Opening (GJO) aimed at building a pool of qualified candidates for future internship vacancies between April 2025 and April 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be tasked with supporting the preparation of qualitative and quantitative analysis products, particularly focusing on data visualizations. They will assist in conducting research and analysis that contributes to the UNOCC's mission of providing global situational awareness and crisis management. Interns will collaborate with team members to deliver integrated analysis that informs decision-making processes within the UN. Responsibilities may include gathering data, analyzing trends, creating visual representations of data, and contributing to reports and presentations for senior leadership.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate strong teamwork skills, reliability, and effective communication abilities. They should be proactive in supporting their teammates and contributing to the overall goals of the team. The minimum educational requirement is a high school diploma, with additional qualifications including enrollment in or completion of a graduate program or the final year of a bachelor's degree program. Relevant coursework in political science, human rights, humanitarian issues, and data management is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes a high school diploma as a minimum. Candidates should also meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

Experience:
Candidates should have relevant coursework or experience related to political and security developments, human rights, economic and social developments, humanitarian issues, and data visualization. This experience can be gained through academic studies, internships, or volunteer work in related fields.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance a candidate's application.
