Job Overview:
This internship is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience in project management within the Office of the Director of the Programme Planning and Budget Division (PPBD) at the United Nations. The selected intern will engage in various tasks that support the design, development, delivery, and maintenance of data-driven products aimed at facilitating change management initiatives. This role is particularly suited for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic international environment, contributing to strategic tools and knowledge-sharing initiatives. The internship is full-time and in-person, with a duration of four months, extendable to six months based on departmental needs. Interns will work under the supervision of a staff member and are expected to start in May 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: supporting the development and maintenance of a strategic organizational tool using Microsoft Project or similar software; collaborating with different teams to identify key priorities and dependencies; documenting workflows and analyzing processes to provide actionable recommendations; tracking project and program progress and reporting on key milestones; organizing and maintaining program-related documentation and databases; conducting data collection and analysis to evaluate program performance; working closely with team members to document Standard Operating Procedures, guidelines, FAQs, and best practices; and monitoring discussions and responding to inquiries in a timely manner. This role requires a proactive approach and the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must also demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as strong planning and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Project or similar software is essential, along with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and virtual event planning tools.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage.

Experience:
While no prior professional work experience is required, applicants should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. Familiarity with project management principles and process mapping is advantageous, as is any experience with planning virtual events.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, is considered an advantage. The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French, and proficiency in other official languages (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish) is beneficial.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid and requires full-time commitment (up to 35 hours per week). Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents must obtain a G-4 visa for the internship.
