Job Overview:
The Consultant - Website Migration Expert will play a crucial role in enhancing the digital communication strategies of the UN's Department of Peace Operations. This position involves producing strategic guidelines based on best practices and technical assessments, with a focus on improving the effectiveness of the UN Peacekeeping website. The consultant will work over a twelve-month period, conducting a comprehensive technical assessment, developing strategic guidelines, advising on internal capacity enhancement, and providing expert support during the migration process. The consultant's work will ensure that peacekeeping operations can effectively leverage digital tools and improve engagement with key audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for conducting a thorough technical assessment of the current digital communication efforts related to peacekeeping. This includes evaluating website structure, content effectiveness, audience engagement, and editorial workflows. The consultant will develop strategic guidelines to optimize website content and digital communications, focusing on user experience and audience engagement. Additionally, the consultant will advise on enhancing internal capacity for strategic digital communications, conduct a mapping exercise of existing resources, and develop training modules to address identified gaps. The consultant will also provide expert advisory support to the Strategic Communications Section, ensuring that peacekeeping missions can effectively implement digital strategies during the migration period.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, or a related field. A minimum of 7 years of experience in leading assessments and strategic reviews of websites for international organizations is required. Candidates should have a deep understanding of UN peacekeeping and the information needs of Member States. Experience in providing strategic advice on digital and traditional communications materials, as well as training design and delivery, is essential. Strong writing and editing skills, along with the ability to manage complex editorial projects, are required. Knowledge of AI technologies is desirable, as is a strong publication record.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively contribute to the strategic communications efforts of the UN.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of established expertise in leading comprehensive assessments and strategic reviews of websites, particularly in the context of international organizations. Candidates should have experience in advising on the development of editorial and web content, as well as providing strategic advice on digital communications materials. Experience in training design and delivery is also necessary, along with a proven ability to manage complex editorial projects in a fast-paced international environment.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is desirable, and familiarity with another official United Nations language is considered an advantage. This multilingual capability is important for effective communication within the diverse environment of the UN.
