The Office of the Victims' Rights Advocate (OVRA) is part of the United Nations system, established to ensure that the rights and dignity of victims are prioritized in the response to sexual exploitation and abuse by UN personnel. The OVRA was created following the 2017 report of the Secretary-General to the General Assembly, which outlined a new approach to protection from such abuses. Job Overview:
The Communication Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the Office of the Victims' Rights Advocate (OVRA) by assisting in various communication and outreach efforts. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about human rights and the work of the United Nations. The intern will be involved in conducting research and analysis related to the mandate of the OVRA, which focuses on ensuring that victims' rights are upheld in the context of allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse. The intern will work under the supervision of a Human Rights Officer and will be expected to contribute to the development and implementation of communication strategies, as well as the production of multimedia content. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a vital area of the UN's work, while also developing skills in communication, research, and public engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communication Intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: conducting research and analysis on issues relevant to the OVRA's mandate; supporting the implementation of both internal and external communication strategies; assisting in the production of multimedia and digital content; designing, drafting, and updating presentations and other communication materials; participating in communication and public information activities; monitoring and tracking social media engagement; attending meetings and conferences to take notes and summarize proceedings; and performing any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor. This role requires a proactive approach and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet specific criteria: they should either be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent) or be in the final academic year of a university degree program (minimum bachelor's level). Additionally, candidates should be proficient in standard software applications and have a strong interest in communication, journalism, web design, data visualization, or marketing. Experience with graphic/web design applications is also beneficial. A commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter and the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds are essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed or be in the process of completing a relevant degree program. This could include fields such as communication, journalism, marketing, or any related area that would provide the necessary skills for the internship. The educational background should ideally align with the responsibilities of the internship, emphasizing the importance of effective communication and outreach.

Experience:
No prior working experience is required to apply for this internship. The United Nations Internship Programme is designed for students and recent graduates, allowing them to gain practical experience in a professional setting. However, any relevant coursework or volunteer experience in communication or related fields may enhance an applicant's profile.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official United Nations language, such as French, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's ability to perform in the role.
