Job Overview: The Director, Media position at Human Rights Watch is a critical leadership role within the Communications Department, responsible for shaping the organization's public voice and influence. The Media Director will report directly to the Global Communications Director and will manage a team that is dispersed across various regions, including the US, Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. The primary function of this role is to maximize strategic media coverage of HRW's research on both traditional and emerging media platforms. The Media Director will be expected to set and lead the editorial vision for HRW's media engagement, ensuring that the organization's advocacy priorities are advanced and that its institutional voice remains prominent and relevant. This position requires a strategic approach to media engagement, aligning divisional priorities with the broader goals of the organization while ensuring effective support and coordination across different time zones. The Media Director will also oversee the development and deployment of media products, manage budget planning, and build relationships with influential external audiences, including senior journalists and commentators. Additionally, the role involves acting as a strategic advisor to senior leadership and leading HRW's crisis communications efforts, ensuring rapid and authoritative responses during high-risk moments.
