Job Overview: This internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located in the Office of the Victims' Rights Advocate (OVRA) and is designed to provide support to the office's mission of ensuring the rights and dignity of victims of sexual exploitation and abuse. The intern will work closely with the Human Rights Officer and will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful research and analysis related to the mandate of the OVRA. The internship is primarily full-time and in-person, but there is flexibility for remote work or part-time arrangements upon request. The intern will be expected to contribute to various projects and initiatives that align with the UN's commitment to protecting victims' rights and enhancing the response to allegations of abuse by UN personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for conducting research and analysis on issues pertinent to the work of the Victims' Rights Advocate. This includes preparing short papers on topics relevant to the victims' rights approach, drafting notes, background papers, talking points, and speeches. The intern will also attend meetings and conferences, taking notes and providing support for the Senior Victims' Rights Officers and Focal Points. Additionally, the intern will assist in communication and public information activities, outreach efforts, and perform other related duties as assigned by the Human Rights Officer.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this internship, applicants must either be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent) or be in the final academic year of a university degree program (minimum bachelor's level). Candidates should be proficient in standard software applications and demonstrate a strong interest in the work of the United Nations, along with a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. The ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is essential, as is a willingness to understand and respect differing opinions and beliefs. No prior work experience is required, but relevant training or coursework that benefits the UN is encouraged.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed or be enrolled in a graduate program or the final year of an undergraduate program. This educational background should ideally be in fields related to human rights, international relations, law, or social sciences, which would provide a solid foundation for understanding the complexities of the UN's work and the specific responsibilities of the internship.
