Job Overview:
The Social Media Specialist position is integral to the Digital Team within the Media and Communications Branch of UNFPA. This role involves overseeing and executing the daily social media strategy for UNFPA's global channels. The incumbent will work closely with the Head of Digital Communications to ensure that the content aligns with current events and trends, effectively engaging the target audience, which includes the general public, policymakers, donors, and influencers. The Social Media Specialist will be responsible for creating and managing social media campaigns, producing content, and advising on reputational crises related to social media. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying trends and opportunities for engagement, ensuring that UNFPA's messaging is impactful and reaches a wide audience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Social Media Specialist will lead the planning and execution of the social media strategy aimed at engaging core audiences. Key responsibilities include leveraging social media trends and the news cycle to enhance engagement, ideating and delivering creative campaigns, producing high-quality English copy for various platforms, and selecting visual assets for social media use. The incumbent will coordinate with internal stakeholders for content planning, provide strategic guidance to the Social Media Team, maintain an editorial calendar, and collaborate with graphic designers for campaign materials. Additionally, the role involves advising on crisis management related to social media and ensuring that all content aligns with UNFPA's mission and values.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in social media engagement and visibility. They should demonstrate expertise in creative visual storytelling and multimedia content development, with a proven track record of leveraging current events to enhance reach and engagement. Experience in raising awareness about humanitarian issues is desirable, along with proficiency in design tools and a deep understanding of online audiences. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills, sound editorial judgment, and the ability to handle reputational issues on social media. A willingness to work off-hours during emergencies or major PR events is also required.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in a relevant field such as journalism, strategic communications, public relations, or advertising/marketing is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage UNFPA's social media presence and campaigns.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of relevant work experience in social media management, with a focus on driving visibility and engagement. Candidates should have a strong background in creative content development and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with global audiences on social issues, particularly those related to women's healthcare and human rights. Experience in building and maintaining online communities is also crucial for success in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English with excellent drafting and editorial skills is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages such as French, Spanish, or Arabic is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
