Job Overview: The National Consultant for Programme Support under the Human Rights Team (Truth and Healing) is expected to provide expert guidance and support to the UNDP's initiatives related to human rights, particularly focusing on truth and healing processes. This role involves working closely with various stakeholders, including government entities, civil society organizations, and community groups, to ensure that human rights are upheld and that historical injustices are addressed. The consultant will be responsible for developing strategies, facilitating discussions, and implementing programs that promote reconciliation and healing in communities affected by past conflicts. The position requires a deep understanding of human rights issues, as well as the ability to navigate complex social and political landscapes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical support and expertise in the development and implementation of human rights programs related to truth and healing.
Collaborate with stakeholders to identify key issues and challenges in the human rights landscape.
Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and discussions aimed at promoting awareness and understanding of human rights principles.
Conduct research and analysis on best practices in truth and reconciliation processes globally.
Prepare reports and documentation on program progress, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
Engage with community leaders and organizations to foster trust and collaboration in human rights initiatives.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make necessary adjustments to enhance outcomes.
Ensure compliance with UNDP policies and procedures throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in human rights advocacy, particularly in the context of truth and reconciliation processes.
Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
Familiarity with UNDP's mission and values, as well as its operational procedures.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and creativity in problem-solving.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in Human Rights, International Relations, Social Sciences, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in conflict resolution, mediation, or related areas will be considered an asset.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in human rights, conflict resolution, or related fields is required. Experience working with international organizations, particularly within the UN system, is highly desirable. Proven track record of successfully managing projects and engaging with stakeholders in complex environments is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Bengali or other local languages is considered an asset, as it will facilitate better communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is for a fixed term of 80 working days over a period of 5 months. It is a consultancy role, and the consultant will be expected to work independently while adhering to UNDP's guidelines and standards. The consultant will be compensated based on the agreed terms in the contract, and benefits may include access to UNDP resources and networks.
