Job Overview:
The Livestock Economics and Climate Smart Livestock Expert will play a crucial role in supporting the development of a comprehensive project proposal aimed at enhancing the resilience of livestock systems to climate change in the ECOWAS region. This position requires specialized expertise in livestock economics, market analysis, value chain development, and economic modeling. The expert will collaborate with a team of professionals to ensure that the project proposal is well-informed and effectively addresses the economic challenges and opportunities within the livestock sector. The role involves conducting economic assessments, developing frameworks for integrating climate-smart practices, and providing technical support for policy development. The expert will also be responsible for ensuring that the project aligns with GCF requirements and contributes to sustainable agricultural practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including: supporting the identification and formulation of the project in collaboration with FAO country offices and relevant technical officers; conducting economic assessments of livestock production systems in the ECOWAS region; developing a comprehensive economic framework for the GCF project; providing technical support for policy development; recommending innovative approaches for integrating renewable energy and biodiversity protection into livestock systems; developing financial models for proposed interventions; analyzing livestock value chains; evaluating the impact of existing policies on market development; proposing market-based solutions for integrating climate-smart practices; collaborating with technical experts; developing performance indicators; documenting stakeholder perspectives; ensuring quality control of project proposals; and organizing meetings and workshops to validate the proposal.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in Agricultural Economics, Zootechnics, Zoo economics, Livestock Economics and Climate Change, Agroeconomics, or related fields. They should have at least 5 years of professional experience in economic analysis, value chain development, or financial modeling within the livestock sector, as well as experience in climate change adaptation or rural development. Full proficiency in French is required, and excellent communication skills in English and/or French are essential. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of climate change impacts on livestock systems and possess technical skills related to climate-smart livestock practices.

Educational Background:
An advanced degree in relevant fields such as Agricultural Economics, Zootechnics, Zoo economics, Livestock Economics and Climate Change, or Agroeconomics is mandatory for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of livestock economics and the impacts of climate change on agricultural practices.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in areas such as economic analysis, value chain development, financial modeling in the livestock sector, and climate change adaptation. Experience with international development projects, particularly those funded by major institutions like GCF or the World Bank, is highly desirable. Proven ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and engage with various stakeholders is also essential.

Languages:
Full proficiency in French is mandatory for this position. Excellent writing and communication skills in English and/or French are required, with a strong emphasis on the ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.

This position is remote, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements. The role is expected to be full-time and may involve collaboration with international teams.
