In the Pacific region, UNDP supports ten countries directly and five regionally, impacting a population of approximately 2.4 million. The organization is guided by a Sub-regional Programme Document for the Pacific Island Countries and Territories for the period 2018-2022, which aligns with the global 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and focuses on achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP emphasizes inclusive, pro-poor, and human rights-based approaches, leveraging multi-disciplinary expertise to address the needs of the most vulnerable populations, including marginalized groups and those affected by climate change.

Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position is part of the Pacific Elections Assistance Program (PEAP), which aims to enhance electoral processes in the Pacific Islands by providing dedicated support to Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs). The role involves reviewing and providing quality assurance for research documents related to electoral processes, ensuring they meet technical and publication standards. The volunteer will work closely with the PEAP Programme Team to assess the clarity, coherence, and relevance of the documents, contributing to the overall goal of strengthening electoral integrity and promoting democratic engagement among citizens. This position is crucial for ensuring that the outputs of the PEAP project are of high quality and effectively communicate important findings and recommendations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will undertake several key responsibilities, including: reviewing a series of research and analytical documents produced under the PEAP project, each approximately 40 pages in length; assessing the documents for technical quality, structure, clarity, and relevance to policy; providing detailed written feedback, including comments and recommendations for improvement; identifying gaps, redundancies, and areas needing clarification; collaborating with the UNDP team to refine and revise document sections based on the review; ensuring that all documents adhere to UNDP's publication-quality standards; and maintaining continuous communication with the PEAP Programme Team regarding progress and any challenges encountered during the review process.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Online Volunteer position should possess strong analytical and editorial skills, with a keen eye for detail. They should have experience in reviewing academic or policy documents, particularly in the context of electoral processes or governance. Familiarity with the Pacific region's political landscape and electoral systems is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to provide constructive feedback and work collaboratively with a team, as well as possess excellent written communication skills in English.

Educational Background:
A background in political science, international relations, public policy, or a related field is preferred for this position. Candidates should ideally hold at least a bachelor's degree, with advanced degrees being an advantage. Knowledge of electoral systems and governance issues, particularly in the Pacific context, will be beneficial.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have prior experience in document review, editing, or quality assurance, particularly in relation to research or policy documents. Experience working with international organizations or in electoral assistance programs is a plus. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the principles of good governance and electoral integrity.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all documents will be reviewed in English. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the Pacific region may be considered an asset, but is not required.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and as such, it may not offer financial compensation. The role is expected to be flexible in terms of hours, allowing the volunteer to work remotely. The duration of the engagement will be determined based on the volume of documents to be reviewed and the timeline for publication. The position is open to individuals from various backgrounds, and UNDP encourages applications from diverse candidates.
