Job Overview:
The National UN Specialist Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the South Area Planning & Monitoring Specialist and the overall guidance of the South Area Chief of Field Office. This role is pivotal in collecting, compiling, and synthesizing operational information from field teams and partners to produce timely updates. The Specialist will support rapid information gathering during emergencies, prepare concise flash updates, and compile field monitoring highlights. Additionally, the role involves gathering qualitative information for communication reports, drafting human-interest stories, and preparing visually engaging presentation materials. The Specialist will also assist in maintaining information management tools and provide capacity-building support to UNICEF colleagues and partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Field Operational Updates: Collect and synthesize operational information from field teams and partners to produce accurate updates. Review and edit inputs from program sections for clarity and accuracy.
  • Emergency Response Flash Updates: Support information gathering during emergencies, prepare flash updates reflecting urgent needs and response actions, and contribute to inter-agency assessment summaries.
  • Field Monitoring Highlights: Compile highlights from field missions and monitoring reports, extracting key achievements and challenges.
  • NatCom and Communication Reports: Gather qualitative information and draft stories showcasing UNICEF's impact.
  • Presentation Materials: Prepare slide decks summarizing program results and challenges.
  • Information Management: Organize and maintain information management tools and ensure data accuracy.
  • Capacity Building: Provide support on reporting templates and assist in organizing training sessions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear narratives. Proficiency in data management and information systems is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to UNICEF's mission and values, including accountability, professionalism, and teamwork. The ability to work in a challenging environment and adapt to changing circumstances is crucial.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, international relations, development studies, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees are preferred and may enhance the candidate's profile.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in humanitarian response, monitoring and evaluation, or a related field. Experience working in complex emergencies or conflict-affected areas is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNICEF's programming and operations will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local partners and stakeholders. Additional languages may be beneficial but are not required.

Additional Notes:
This position is a National UN Specialist Volunteer role based in Kosti, White Nile State, Sudan. The role is full-time and entails a monthly volunteer living allowance of 1,597.25 USD, along with a danger and hardship differential of 575 USD. Volunteers are entitled to annual and learning leaves, free medical and life insurance, and access to various learning platforms. The living conditions in Kosti are challenging due to economic instability and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security concerns, but the town serves as an important humanitarian hub.
