Job Overview:
The position involves conducting an assessment and identifying the carrying capacity of selected dive sites along the Aqaba Marine Reserve in Jordan. This role is crucial for ensuring the sustainable management of marine resources and protecting the biodiversity of the region. The contractor will be expected to analyze environmental data, engage with local stakeholders, and provide recommendations based on the findings. The assignment is deliverable-based and is expected to last for three months, requiring a comprehensive understanding of marine ecosystems and sustainable tourism practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a thorough assessment of the selected dive sites to determine their current carrying capacity.
  • Analyze environmental data and trends related to marine biodiversity and tourism impact.
  • Engage with local stakeholders, including dive operators, conservation groups, and government agencies, to gather insights and data.
  • Develop a detailed report outlining the findings of the assessment, including recommendations for sustainable practices.
  • Present the findings to UNDP and relevant stakeholders, facilitating discussions on implementation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with UNDP guidelines and standards throughout the assessment process.
  • Provide ongoing support and consultation to stakeholders during the implementation of recommendations.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, with a background in marine biology, environmental science, or a related field. Experience in conducting environmental assessments and familiarity with marine ecosystems is essential. The candidate should also have excellent communication skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and present findings clearly. Proficiency in data analysis software and tools is highly desirable, along with a demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in marine biology, environmental science, ecology, or a related field is required. A master's degree or higher qualification in a relevant discipline will be considered an advantage. Additional certifications related to marine conservation or sustainable tourism practices are also beneficial.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 3-5 years of relevant experience in environmental assessment, marine conservation, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs, particularly in the context of marine resource management, is highly valued. Proven track record of successful project management and stakeholder engagement is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is considered an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of the assessment process.

Additional Notes:
This position is a short-term contract for a duration of three months, with a focus on deliverables. The contractor will be expected to work full-time during this period. The role is open to both national and international candidates, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
