Job Overview:
The Information Systems Assistant at the FS-5 level will be responsible for ensuring the reliable operation and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of the network infrastructure for UNMISS. This role involves supporting the Information Systems Officers in developing and implementing the Unit’s work plan in alignment with mission requirements. The incumbent will contribute to the delivery of high-quality products and services, playing a critical role in the planning and implementation of major information systems projects within the Mission. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively with various teams to achieve organizational goals. The Information Systems Assistant will also be involved in training staff on the use of assigned systems and network resources, ensuring that the mission's IT infrastructure is robust and effective.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Information Systems Assistant will perform a variety of responsibilities related to network infrastructure and information technology (IT). Key duties include assisting with the planning and implementation of major information systems projects, supporting the development of technical specifications for procurement, and contributing to the enforcement of information systems standards and guidelines. The incumbent will provide technical advice to users, participate in the development of plans for IT systems projects, maintain and enhance existing systems, and develop training materials. Additionally, the role involves overseeing backup and recovery procedures, managing user access control, drafting technical documentation, and participating in budget planning and resource allocation. The Information Systems Assistant will also be responsible for mentoring junior staff and ensuring compliance with information security protocols.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with specific job-related qualifications such as Cisco Certified Specialist (Enterprise Core), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE). A certification or diploma in Information Systems and Technology is also required, as well as ITIL v4 Foundation certification or PRINCE2 Foundation. These qualifications ensure that the candidate has the necessary technical skills and knowledge to perform effectively in the role.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, candidates must have certifications in relevant fields such as Cisco networking and IT service management. These educational qualifications are essential for understanding the complexities of network management and information systems within the context of the United Nations operations.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in network management, IT infrastructure, or telecommunications. This experience should include network design, implementation, monitoring, and support in a United Nations common system field operation, with at least three years in a conflict or post-conflict setting. Experience in programmatic and administrative tasks essential to the Unit’s operations, including work plan preparation and budgeting, is also required. Desirable experience includes implementing hybrid integrations of on-premises systems with cloud solutions and project management.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat. While not mandatory, proficiency in French is considered an asset, as it is another working language of the UN. This language requirement ensures effective communication within the diverse environment of the United Nations.
