Job Overview: The intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Communications Intern will play a vital role in supporting the Enhancing Community Resilience and Local Governance Project Phase II (ECRP II) in South Sudan. This internship is designed for students and recent graduates who have a keen interest in communications, multimedia production, and the impact of migration. The intern will assist the ECRP II Communications Team in producing high-quality visual content that documents the project's activities and impact. This includes field-based photography, videography, and editing, ensuring that all materials align with IOM and donor visibility standards. The intern will gain hands-on experience in multimedia production while contributing to the visibility and communication efforts of a significant project aimed at enhancing community resilience and governance in South Sudan.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks under the supervision of the ECRP II Communications Officer. Key responsibilities include:
Photography & Videography: Capture professional-quality photos during TDY missions, ensuring adherence to IOM and donor branding/visibility guidelines. Film short videos that highlight community impact, infrastructure development, and governance activities.
Post-Production & Editing: Edit raw footage into engaging video clips suitable for social media, donor briefings, and events. Select and edit photos for use in reports, factsheets, and media platforms, applying branding templates, captions, and subtitles as required.
Communications Support: Assist in compiling photo and video libraries, ensuring proper cataloguing and metadata. Contribute to the design of visual products such as infographics, social media cards, and multimedia presentations. Provide light writing/editing support for captions, success stories, or newsletters as needed. Expected deliverables include a curated photo collection from each TDY mission, at least two short edited videos showcasing ECRP II impact, and one social media content package tailored for the project and South Sudan channels.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in or a recent graduate of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in communications, multimedia production, film, journalism, or a related field. Proven photography and videography skills are essential, and a portfolio or samples of previous work will be required. Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar is necessary. Basic knowledge of graphic design tools like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Canva is considered an asset. Strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and flexibility to adapt to remote collaboration are also required. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to IOM’s values of respect, inclusion, and accountability.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from a relevant degree program, such as communications, multimedia production, film, or journalism. This educational background will provide the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for the internship role, particularly in the areas of visual storytelling and multimedia content creation.
Experience: The internship is aimed at individuals with less than two years of relevant working experience. This is particularly suitable for students or recent graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in communications and multimedia production within an international organization. Previous internships or volunteer experiences in similar fields will be beneficial but are not mandatory.
Languages: A thorough knowledge of the English language, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. This proficiency is essential for effective communication within the team and for producing high-quality written content. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
Additional Notes: The internship will last for three months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs. The intern will be based in South Sudan and will be required to travel regularly to project sites as part of TDY missions. Any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation, and the appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and government authorizations where applicable. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those receiving financial remuneration or credits from their university or other sponsoring bodies will not be eligible for this stipend. IOM covers interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan, free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. However, interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses and must provide proof of coverage before starting work. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct incompatible with its aims and objectives, including discrimination and harassment.
