Job Overview: The Durable Solutions Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the NRC's efforts to identify, design, and implement activities aimed at achieving durable solutions for individuals displaced by conflict in South Sudan. This includes working with refugees, returnees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and host communities. The position requires active engagement with various organizations to promote durable solutions through effective programming and advocacy. The specialist will be responsible for ensuring that NRC's strategies align with the specific challenges faced by displaced populations in South Sudan, contributing to the development of policies and tools that foster innovation and effective responses to displacement crises. The role also involves training and guiding NRC staff and partners on durable solutions programming, ensuring that best practices are documented and shared across the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Durable Solutions Specialist will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
Ensuring compliance with NRC policies and procedures related to durable solutions and self-reliance.
Developing and updating strategies for advocacy and programming goals focused on durable solutions.
Mapping current programming that can contribute to durable solutions for IDPs, returnees, and refugees.
Collaborating with NRC Technical Units to align theories of change with pathways to durable solutions.
Creating a measurement framework to track and analyze the success of initiatives.
Providing training and guidance to NRC and partner staff on programming and advocacy that supports beneficiaries' preparedness for durable solutions.
Leading efforts to integrate programming across borders and facilitate service provision across NRC locations.
Engaging with local partner organizations to understand operational realities and challenges.
Collaborating with advocacy and communications staff to shape messaging related to durable solutions. 1
Identifying funding opportunities to support durable solutions work and developing strategic donor relationships.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of experience in humanitarian settings, with at least three years in a senior project or program management role. A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as law, social sciences, or related disciplines is required, with an advanced academic qualification being an added advantage. A clear understanding of durable solutions issues, legal frameworks, and professional standards in humanitarian contexts is essential. Candidates should also have knowledge of relevant legal and policy frameworks, including International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. Experience in protracted emergencies and complex contexts is highly desirable, along with the ability to coordinate tasks and work under tight deadlines. Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory.
Educational Background: The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as law, social sciences, or related disciplines. An advanced academic qualification will be considered an advantage, as it demonstrates a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding durable solutions and humanitarian assistance.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least five years of experience working in humanitarian settings, with a minimum of three years in a senior-level project or program management position. Proven success in program design, proposal development, and funding acquisition is also essential for this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, both in written and verbal communication.
