Job Overview:
The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM is designed to attract talented students and recent graduates who have a specific interest in migration-related issues and IOM's programs and activities. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. This internship offers a unique opportunity to learn about IOM's Transition and Recovery work in South Sudan, providing interns with initial work experience and the chance to develop knowledge across a broad range of technical areas within Transition and Recovery programming. Interns will work under the supervision of the Programme Coordinator and the HLP officer, contributing to various projects and gaining valuable insights into the workings of an international organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for conducting desk research on Housing, Land, and Property (HLP) issues in South Sudan, including customary and statutory tenure systems, gender dimensions, and conflict dynamics. They will assist in monitoring HLP activities such as legal awareness, mediation, and land access initiatives. Interns will contribute to drafting reports, briefing notes, case studies, and training materials, as well as assisting in the dissemination and routine updates of the Due diligence toolkit. They will also support the design of new HLP-related tools and resources, document IOM HLP team's engagement with the Humanitarian Cluster framework, and prepare monthly updates and reports for AoR focal points. Additionally, interns will assist in planning consultations for the development of an HLP training curriculum, track HLP team monthly activities, draft and disseminate monthly updates for the internal IOM HLP Community of Practice, help plan and organize knowledge-sharing events, and develop knowledge of HLP programming through research and resource mapping.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated within the last 12 months. They should have a specific interest in, or studies related to, areas relevant to IOM's programs and activities. Additionally, candidates should hold a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations or be sponsored by governmental/non-governmental institutions or academia to work in areas relevant to IOM and the sponsor.

Educational Background:
A degree from an accredited academic institution is required, preferably in Law, International Development, Social Sciences, International Relations, or a related field. Candidates should have no more than two years of relevant professional experience following the completion of their studies, ensuring that they are well-prepared to contribute to the organization's objectives.

Experience:
Experience in a related field is advantageous, as it will provide interns with a better understanding of the complexities involved in migration and recovery programming. While prior experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships, volunteer work, or academic projects will be beneficial in demonstrating the candidate's commitment and interest in the field.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, both oral and written, as it is essential for effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the regions in which IOM operates.

Additional Notes:
The internship is home-based and remote, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements. Any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation, and the appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the concerned government, where applicable. Depending on experience and location, interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs. However, interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend. IOM covers interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan, free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. It is important to note that IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents and illnesses, and interns are responsible for their own medical insurance. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, and discrimination. IOM does not charge a fee at any stage of its recruitment process and only accepts duly completed applications submitted through the IOM online recruitment system.
