Job Overview: The Education Project Manager position is crucial for implementing the education project portfolio within the Emergency Response Unit. This role is part of the Emergency Rapid Response Mechanism (ERRM) Consortium, which activates missions in response to sudden shocks such as conflict or disease outbreaks. The Project Manager will oversee the implementation of diverse Education in Emergency (EiE) activities, ensuring that they are effectively delivered to the most vulnerable populations. This includes building staff capacity, providing technical direction, managing budgets, and engaging with stakeholders to ensure quality deliverables. The Project Manager will also be responsible for developing strong partnerships and ensuring that the projects align with donor requirements and organizational strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Education Project Manager will have a range of responsibilities, including:
Line management of directly reporting staff, including performance management and goal setting aligned with country strategy.
Overseeing workforce planning, recruitment, staff induction, and development while ensuring Duty of Care for staff.
Adhering to NRC policies and contributing to the development of country and core competency strategies.
Coordinating and managing education project implementation, including activities, budgets, and documentation in line with proposals and donor requirements.
Implementing technical interventions to ensure high-quality project outcomes.
Providing regular progress reports to the Emergency Response Manager and other stakeholders.
Ensuring projects target the most vulnerable beneficiaries and exploring innovative approaches to assistance.
Liaising with local authorities and key stakeholders to promote the rights of displaced populations.
Ensuring compliance with NRC policies and specific responsibilities related to functions. 1
Providing technical direction to the EiE team and ensuring program results are achieved within time, scope, and budget. 1
Developing work plans and managing a system for tracking results in coordination with the MEAL Manager. 1
Engaging with project stakeholders for synergies and standardization of approaches. 1
Representing the project in various forums and ensuring timely implementation of project activities. 1
Planning and overseeing capacity building for NRC and implementing partners' staff. 1
Undertaking any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Education Project Manager position should possess the following qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field; an advanced degree in Social Sciences or a relevant area is preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, particularly in insecure and complex environments.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including negotiation, coaching, and capacity building.
Excellent writing and speaking skills, with the ability to develop complex arguments.
Strong cultural awareness and the ability to work effectively in an international environment with diverse teams.
Fluency in English, both verbal and written, is mandatory.
Educational Background: Candidates must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field. An advanced degree in Social Sciences or a relevant discipline is highly desirable, as it provides a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in education in emergency contexts.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, particularly in challenging and volatile environments. This experience should include managing education projects and working with diverse teams in humanitarian settings.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, both in written and spoken forms. Knowledge of Juba Arabic is considered desirable, as it would facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Juba, South Sudan, and is a national contract for a duration of 12 months, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability. The salary will be based on NRC’s national salary scale, specifically at grade
