Job Overview:
The Programme Assistant position is part of the Global Programme against Money Laundering, Proceeds of Crime and the Financing of Terrorism (GPML) within the Cybercrime and Anti-Money Laundering Section (CMLS) of the Organized Crime and Illicit Trafficking Branch (OCB) at UNODC. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the AML/CFT adviser and the Chief of GPML. The role involves supporting the implementation of GPML initiatives globally, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Programme Assistant will assist in organizing training courses, conducting research on illicit financial flows, and providing administrative support to various GPML activities. The position is designed for candidates aged 18-26, emphasizing the importance of youth engagement in combating financial crime and enhancing compliance with international standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Supporting the preparation, organization, implementation, and follow-up of GPML AML/CFT training courses and events.
  • Conducting research on topics related to illicit financial flows, money laundering, and terrorist financing.
  • Analyzing information on ongoing activities and reporting progress to donors and project partners.
  • Assisting with procurement processes for goods and services, including reaching out to vendors and preparing comparative tables.
  • Providing secretarial and administrative support for GPML meetings and workshops.
  • Managing travel requests for participants and consultants, including preparing travel plans and security clearances.
  • Monitoring expenditures and ensuring proper utilization of funds.
  • Drafting technical documents, project proposals, and status reports for review by senior staff.
  • Processing mail and documents, ensuring timely follow-up on actions. 1
  • Engaging in community volunteerism and promoting the UN Volunteers programme.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. They should demonstrate professionalism and discretion in dealing with clients and stakeholders. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for preparing reports and conducting presentations. The ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and respect for diversity is crucial. Candidates should also be adaptable and willing to learn new skills, with a commitment to the principles of voluntary engagement and the mission of UNODC.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in social sciences, international relations, law, or a related field. Additional training or certifications related to anti-money laundering, financial crime, or international law may be advantageous.

Experience:
While specific professional experience is not mandatory for this entry-level position, any relevant internships or volunteer work in fields related to law enforcement, financial crime, or international development will be considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the demands of the role, with a focus on supporting the objectives of the GPML.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNODC. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly Spanish or French, is considered a valuable asset, given the global nature of the GPML and its focus on regions where these languages are spoken.

This position is a UN Volunteer assignment based in Vienna, Austria, and is designed for candidates aged 18-2
  • The role is full-time, and the UNV will receive various allowances to support their living expenses, including a monthly living allowance, entry lump sum, and family allowances if applicable. The contract includes provisions for annual leave, sick leave, and learning leave, as well as medical and life insurance coverage. The UNV is expected to engage in community volunteerism and contribute to the UNV mandate during their assignment.
