Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located within the Regional Section for South Asia, East Asia, and the Pacific (RSSAEAP) of the Division for Operations (DO) at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria. This internship is designed for a duration of six months, commencing on April 1, 2025, and concluding on September 30, 202
  • The intern will be expected to work full-time, five days a week, totaling 40 hours per week. The role is unpaid, and the intern will receive supervision from a professional staff member within the RSSAEAP Section. The primary focus of the internship is to provide substantive backstopping and strategic advice to the field office network in the Regional Office for South East Asia and the Pacific (ROSEAP) and the Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA), thereby supporting program development, implementation, and reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: supporting the reporting obligations within RSSAEAP according to established procedures; leading the matrix of these obligations; assisting in the preparation of the Division for Operations monthly report, high-impact stories, calendars of events, and other documents relevant to UNODC reporting; supporting the functions of RSSAEAP for backstopping Field Offices (FOs) through coordination of inputs and communication; monitoring program delivery and preparing relevant documents such as strategic program frameworks, country profiles, and work plans; preparing briefing notes, factsheets, background notes, summary reports, and other documents for senior management and official visits; assisting in mission/event preparation and follow-up; collecting, reviewing, and analyzing data from various UNODC units and FOs; conducting research on specific topics and producing working papers, reports, summaries, analyses, briefings, presentations, and studies; attending meetings, taking notes, and producing minutes and briefings on outcomes; drafting correspondence and advocacy papers; and performing other tasks as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have recently completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Additionally, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. A field of study closely related to the internship is required, and applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree, Master’s, or Ph.D. program, or have recently completed one of these programs.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree program (bachelor's or equivalent), or being enrolled in or having recently completed a Master's or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application.
