Job Posting Organization:

Job Overview:
The Consultant will play a pivotal role in providing legal expertise to support the implementation of the Review Mechanism (IRM) under the UNCAC. This position involves preparing reports and ensuring the quality of country reports, executive summaries, and working documents produced during country reviews. The Consultant will contribute to advancing the peer review process by gathering and analyzing information, providing legal and policy advice, and organizing relevant meetings and discussions. The role is essential for the next phase of the IRM and anti-corruption technical assistance activities, requiring a deep understanding of the UNCAC and its implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant's duties will include conducting research and producing high-quality legal analyses related to the implementation review mechanism. They will support the secretariat in facilitating dialogues among States parties, including organizing telephone conferences and country visits. The Consultant will analyze complex data sets and contribute to parliamentary documentation for the Conference of the States Parties and its subsidiary bodies. They will prepare presentations and organize expert panel discussions, as well as conduct analyses of current information collection tools for the IRM and propose necessary changes. Additionally, the Consultant will provide legal expertise for the MUN/COSP Simulation Conference for Youth, develop scenarios and background documentation, and design training workshops and seminars.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in law, international relations, or political science. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in similar fields combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A minimum of 5 years of professional work experience in legal fields or relevant programs focusing on anti-corruption and governance issues is required, including at least 3 years of experience with the UNCAC implementation review mechanism or similar peer review mechanisms. Experience working with the United Nations system or other international development organizations is desirable, along with the capacity to work independently and with minimal supervision.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in law, international relations, or political science is required for this position. A first-level university degree in similar fields may be accepted if combined with two additional years of qualifying experience, demonstrating the importance of a solid educational foundation in relevant disciplines.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in legal fields or other relevant programs, particularly with a focus on anti-corruption and governance issues. Candidates must have at least 3 years of experience specifically related to the UNCAC implementation review mechanism or similar anti-corruption peer review mechanisms, highlighting the need for substantial experience in this specialized area.

Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required. Fluency in French and/or Spanish is desirable, and knowledge of another official United Nations language is considered an advantage, reflecting the multilingual nature of the organization and the importance of effective communication in various languages.
