Job Overview:
The position of Generator Mechanic involves working under the direct supervision of the Electromechanical unit within the Engineering and Facility Maintenance Section. The primary responsibilities include applying engineering calculations and standard practices for the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of diesel engine generators. The role requires ensuring the smooth operation of generators in compliance with UN regulations, troubleshooting and repairing various models of diesel engine power generators, and integrating new generators into existing systems. The Generator Mechanic will also evaluate spare parts stock levels, maintain operational records, prepare presentations on generator performance, and assist in budget preparation and performance reporting. This position is crucial for maintaining the operational efficiency of the mission's power generation capabilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Apply engineering calculations and standard practices for sizing diesel engine generators and their installation.
• Oversee commissioning, overhauling, and maintenance of generating sets and related equipment.
• Ensure smooth operation of all generators in accordance with UN rules and guidelines.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain various models of diesel engine power generators using diagnostic tools.
• Install and synchronize new or used generators with existing systems, including solar hybrid systems.
• Evaluate spare parts stock levels and advise on requirements to maintain operational readiness.
• Compile generator operation data logs and maintain records of equipment.
• Prepare presentations on generator operations, fuel consumption, and cost analysis.
• Develop and maintain generator history cards and maintenance records. 1

• Assist in the preparation of acquisition plans and budget processes.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of diesel engine mechanics, electrical systems, and generator operations. They should have experience with troubleshooting and repairing diesel generators, as well as familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment. Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to the mission's values and objectives, particularly in challenging environments.

Educational Background:
A technical diploma or degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or a related field, is required. Additional certifications in generator maintenance or related areas are advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in the maintenance and repair of diesel generators and related equipment. Experience working in a humanitarian or international organization is preferred, particularly in challenging environments.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages such as Dari or Pashto is an asset and may enhance communication within the local context.
