Job Overview: The TICAD Communication Consultant will play a pivotal role in supporting strategic communications, advocacy, and outreach efforts for the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9). This position requires the consultant to ensure the development of high-quality content, engage with media, and manage knowledge related to Japan-funded projects. The consultant will collaborate closely with the UNDP/RBA TICAD Unit, the TICAD Partnership Specialist based in Tokyo, and various stakeholders to enhance the visibility and impact of TICAD initiatives. The consultant's work will be crucial in promoting TICAD's objectives and ensuring effective communication strategies are implemented throughout the project lifecycle.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for a range of duties including but not limited to:
Developing and implementing a comprehensive communication strategy for TICAD9 that aligns with UNDP's goals and objectives.
Creating high-quality content for various platforms, including press releases, articles, social media posts, and reports.
Engaging with media outlets to promote TICAD initiatives and ensure accurate representation of the projects.
Coordinating with the TICAD Partnership Specialist and other stakeholders to gather information and insights for communication materials.
Managing knowledge resources related to Japan-funded projects, ensuring that information is accessible and effectively disseminated.
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of communication strategies and making recommendations for improvements.
Participating in meetings and discussions to represent the communication interests of TICAD.
Providing support in organizing events and outreach activities related to TICAD.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:
Proven experience in strategic communications, advocacy, and outreach, preferably in an international development context.
Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce high-quality content for diverse audiences.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Familiarity with media relations and experience in working with journalists and media outlets.
Knowledge of the TICAD process and Japan's development cooperation initiatives would be an asset.
Proficiency in using digital communication tools and platforms.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in communications, international relations, public relations, or a related field. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage, demonstrating a higher level of expertise and understanding of the complexities involved in international development communications.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in communications, advocacy, or public relations, particularly within the context of international development or related fields. Experience working with UN agencies or similar organizations is highly desirable, as it demonstrates familiarity with the operational frameworks and communication strategies employed in such environments.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication for this position. Proficiency in Japanese or French would be considered an asset, as it would enhance the consultant's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders and contribute to TICAD's objectives effectively.
