Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct a thorough analysis of the poultry sector in Lesotho, including production, processing, and marketing aspects.
Identify the key stakeholders in the poultry industry and engage with them to gather insights and data.
Assess the current capacity of poultry farmers and related businesses, including their access to resources, training, and technology.
Evaluate the regulatory environment affecting the poultry sector and identify any barriers to growth and development.
Provide recommendations for enhancing the capacity and sustainability of the poultry sector in Lesotho.
Prepare and submit a detailed report of findings, including actionable recommendations for stakeholders.
Participate in meetings and discussions with UNDP and other relevant parties to present findings and gather feedback.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in conducting assessments or evaluations in the agricultural sector, particularly in poultry or livestock.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and actionable recommendations.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Familiarity with the poultry industry in Lesotho or similar contexts is highly desirable.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Development Studies, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in poultry management or agricultural development will be an advantage.
Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience in agricultural consultancy, with a focus on poultry or livestock sectors. Experience working with international organizations or development agencies is preferred.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of Sesotho or other local languages would be an asset, as it would facilitate communication with local stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This consultancy is classified as an individual contractor position, and the contract duration is for 80 working days. The position is full-time, and the consultant is expected to work independently while adhering to the deadlines set by UNDP. Compensation will be based on the consultant's qualifications and experience, and benefits may include travel allowances if applicable.
