Job Overview: The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring the implementation of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) policies and strategies within UNDP's health and development programs. This position requires the incumbent to ensure compliance with UNDP rules and regulations while developing and implementing strategies to address barriers to accessing HIV, TB, and Malaria services. The specialist will conduct gender and social inclusion analyses to inform project planning and execution, build the capacity of project staff and partners on GESI principles, and ensure alignment with national and Global Fund standards. The role also involves designing and delivering technical support and training interventions, planning workshops and events, and creating a safe working environment that fosters respect and inclusivity.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will report to the Programme and M&E Specialist and will be responsible for the following duties:
Ensure the implementation of GESI policies and strategies across all project activities, ensuring full compliance with UNDP regulations.
Develop and implement strategies to address gender and social inclusion barriers in accessing health services.
Conduct gender and social inclusion analyses to inform project planning and execution.
Build the capacity of project staff and partners on GESI principles.
Ensure project activities align with national and Global Fund GESI standards.
Design and deliver technical support and training interventions based on best practices.
Coordinate recruitment of short-term consultants for specialized technical support.
Plan and organize workshops and events, both logistically and substantively.
Develop M&E and learning plans to monitor GESI integration in project activities. 1
Document success stories and best practices to inform future programming. 1
Coordinate partnerships and collaboration with stakeholders in the area of GESI. 1
Ensure compliance with zero tolerance for discrimination and harassment.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Management, Gender, Human Rights, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Public Health, Development Studies, or a relevant field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the mentioned areas with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be considered. The role requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with a master’s degree or 4 years with a bachelor’s degree in gender and social inclusion, human rights, or community engagement within the health sector. Candidates should have experience in capacity building, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement, particularly in promoting GESI and community rights.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as Management, Gender, Human Rights, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Public Health, or Development Studies is required. A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) with additional qualifying experience may also be considered.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience with a master’s degree or 4 years with a bachelor’s degree in gender and social inclusion, human rights, or community engagement within the health sector. Proven experience in HIV, TB, and Malaria programs, particularly in a Global Fund context, is highly desired. Candidates should demonstrate experience in capacity building, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement, with a focus on promoting GESI and community rights.
Languages: Fluency in English and Nepali is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset.
