Job Overview: The Field Security Assistant (FSA) position is located in the Yangon office of the Department of Safety and Security in Myanmar. The FSA plays a crucial role in supporting the Chief Security Adviser and the Field Security Coordination Officers in implementing security operations and managing safety and security for UN personnel in the Area of Responsibility (AoR). The FSA is responsible for preparing risk assessments, maintaining minimum safety and security standards, updating security plans, and ensuring timely communication of security information to staff. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in security risk management while contributing to the broader mission of the United Nations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The FSA will assist in maintaining the Security Plan, including updating staff lists and reporting security incidents affecting UN staff, offices, and assets. The role involves organizing and delivering training courses on security awareness and preparedness, as well as providing general administrative assistance to the Security Adviser. Specific duties include:
- Assisting in the preparation and review of the UN Security Plan and supporting its implementation.
- Monitoring the implementation of security measures as recommended in the Security Risks Management (SRM) process.
- Reporting security incidents and preparing security reports, including Security Incident Reports and Quarterly Incident Reports.
- Organizing and conducting training courses on security awareness for newly assigned staff members and conducting security briefings as required.
- Conducting security evaluations and advising on Residential Security Measures for UN staff.
- Maintaining a warden system and updating information related to UN offices and residences.
- Administering a pass and ID system and liaising with commercial security companies for effective guard force utilization.
- Maintaining routine and confidential correspondence files and a database of contact details related to host country security authorities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in safety or security, law enforcement, or related areas with a high school degree, or 2 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree. Prior experience with the UN system, international NGOs, or within international humanitarian or development settings is desirable but not mandatory. A good knowledge of computer applications, including MS Office, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required. Experience in diplomatic security and protection of assets will be considered an asset. A valid driver's license and physical fitness for travel are also advantageous.
Educational Background: A secondary education is required for this position. However, a university degree (bachelor’s or master’s equivalent) in Political Science, Security Management, Management, or a relevant field will be given due consideration, although it is not a strict requirement.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a high school diploma or 2 years with a Bachelor’s degree. Experience in safety or security, law enforcement, or related areas is essential. Familiarity with the UN system or international NGOs is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates should also have a good understanding of security information acquisition and management.
Languages: Fluency in English and Burmese (Myanmar) is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
