Job Overview:
The Internship Programme at FAO is designed to attract talented young individuals who are motivated to share their innovative ideas and academic experiences in the fields related to FAO's work. The programme provides a unique learning opportunity for interns to supplement their academic knowledge with practical work assignments. Interns will contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and FAO's Strategic Framework, supporting the 2030 Agenda through the transformation of agri-food systems to be more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable. Interns will report to assigned supervisors and will be involved in various fields of work based on their profiles and the organization's needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will perform tasks as specified in the Terms of Reference (TOR) prepared by the hiring office. This may include conducting research, assisting in project implementation, participating in meetings, and contributing to reports and presentations. Interns are expected to engage actively in their assigned tasks and collaborate with team members to achieve organizational goals. They will also have the opportunity to learn about FAO's operations and contribute to ongoing projects that align with their academic background and interests.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate degree programme at a recognized educational institution. They should specialize in a field relevant to FAO's mission and work. A working knowledge of at least one FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish) is required, and knowledge of a second FAO language is considered an asset. Candidates must be nationals of FAO member countries and should be aged between 21 and 3
  • Good communication skills and the ability to adapt to an international multicultural environment are essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have educational qualifications from institutions accredited or recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED). This ensures that the educational background aligns with FAO's standards and requirements. The focus should be on fields relevant to FAO's work, such as agriculture, food security, nutrition, environmental science, or related disciplines.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not mandatory, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic studies and a strong motivation to contribute to FAO's mission. Interns are expected to bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the organization, and their academic background should align with the tasks they will be assigned during the internship.

Languages:
A working knowledge of at least one FAO language is mandatory, while knowledge of a second FAO language is advantageous. The FAO languages include Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish. Proficiency in these languages will enhance communication and collaboration within the diverse international environment of FAO.

FAO does not charge any fees during the recruitment process. The organization encourages applications from qualified female candidates, nationals of non- and under-represented member countries, and candidates from Low-Income Food-Deficit Countries (LIFDCs), Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Land-locked Developing Countries (LLDCs), and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend unless sponsored by their universities or other entities. Candidates must have appropriate residence or immigration status in the proposed country of assignment prior to joining FAO. Those with family members employed by FAO are not eligible for the internship programme.
