The office in Pakistan focuses on integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) into the national education framework, supporting the government in policy development, and enhancing the quality of education across the country.
Job Overview: The National Consultant will be responsible for designing and implementing a customized three-day capacity-building program for 45 teachers and head teachers from UNESCO’s Associated Schools Network (ASPnet) in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). This program aims to equip educators with the necessary pedagogical knowledge, skills, and tools to effectively deliver content on ESD and GCED. The consultant will ensure that the program empowers educators to integrate these principles into both curricular and extracurricular activities, fostering students' understanding of critical global issues such as environmental sustainability, tolerance, social justice, human rights, and cultural diversity. The consultant will also provide ongoing support to ensure the long-term impact of the program, linking theoretical knowledge with practical application in classrooms.
Duties and Responsibilities: The National Consultant will perform various duties, including conducting a comprehensive desk review of UNESCO ESD and GCED-related frameworks, analyzing the current implementation of these principles in ASPnet schools, developing a localized capacity-building curriculum, preparing a capacity-building manual, designing interactive materials, and creating a strategy for ongoing support. During the implementation phase, the consultant will collaborate with educational authorities, organize and deliver the capacity-building workshop, facilitate interactive sessions, provide on-site support to teachers, and compile reports on the program's delivery and outcomes. Additionally, the consultant will design assessment tools to evaluate participants' knowledge and skills before and after the program, collect feedback, and compile a project completion report.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related fields. They should have at least 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in designing and delivering teacher capacity development programs, with a strong preference for expertise in ESD and GCED. Excellent communication, analytical, and report-writing skills are essential, along with proficiency in MS Office and a good understanding of government functioning. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work efficiently under pressure and in a multicultural environment, with a strong understanding of the educational landscape in Pakistan.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related fields is mandatory for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of educational systems and the principles of sustainable development and global citizenship education.
Experience: The position requires at least 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in the education sector, specifically in designing, implementing, and delivering teacher capacity development programs. Experience in ESD and GCED is highly preferred, as it directly relates to the responsibilities of the role.
Languages: Fluency in English and Urdu is required for this position. Proficiency in any other local languages spoken in the area is considered an added advantage, as it may enhance communication with participants and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The contract duration is for 30 person-days over a period of three months. The position is open to both external and internal candidates. The consultant will be expected to submit various deliverables, including an inception report, capacity-building curriculum and manual, a report on the delivery of the capacity-building program, and a project completion report.
