SI is particularly committed to combating diseases linked to unsafe water, which is a leading cause of death globally. The organization operates in 26 countries and employs around 3,200 individuals, including expatriates, national staff, and volunteers. SI is known for its professionalism and commitment to respecting cultural norms in its interventions.

Job Overview:
The MEAL Coordinator position is designed to provide methodological support to program teams on technical questions related to Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) and cross-cutting issues. The role involves overseeing the quality and relevance of internal monitoring and evaluation activities, ensuring that the department's work is integrated with all other departments, and leading consortium MEAL working groups. The coordinator will contribute to building institutional knowledge and improving MEAL methods and techniques. Given the volatile context in Sudan, the coordinator will face challenges such as complex relationships with authorities and the need for harmonization across various bases. The initial priorities for the first two to three months include operational monitoring of ongoing MEAL activities, revising base reporting documents, and implementing an updated MEAL Action Plan.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The MEAL Coordinator will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Provide methodological support to program teams on MEAL-related technical questions, including the design of M&E plans, data collection methods, and analysis of indicators.
  • Ensure the quality and relevance of internal monitoring and evaluation activities, including studies and reports produced by the department.
  • Facilitate the integration of MEAL activities across all departments and ensure coherence with coordinators and managers.
  • Lead consortium MEAL working groups and contribute to the development of institutional knowledge in MEAL practices.
  • Conduct operational monitoring of ongoing MEAL activities and ensure the implementation of the updated MEAL Action Plan.
  • Harmonize MEAL approaches across field offices and consortium members.
  • Analyze and synthesize comprehensive information and technical data, utilizing database management and data software such as PowerBI.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Social Sciences, or a related field. They should have expertise in MEAL, including knowledge of statistics and sampling methods. The ability to analyze and synthesize complex information is essential, along with proficiency in database management and data analysis software. Strong representation and coordination skills are also required.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Economics, Statistics, or Social Sciences is mandatory for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of MEAL and for effectively contributing to the organization’s objectives.

Experience:
The position requires 0-2 years of relevant experience in MEAL or related fields. Candidates should demonstrate a capacity for operational monitoring and evaluation, as well as familiarity with the humanitarian context, particularly in volatile environments.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French is considered a plus, enhancing communication capabilities within the organization and with local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The position is a short-term contract starting from October 9, 2024, and ending on February 9, 2025, with the possibility of renewal. The salary starts at EUR 2,600 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 750 is provided. SI covers accommodation costs and travel expenses for expatriates. The organization implements a break system, allowing for time off every three months, along with an additional rest day for each month worked.
