Job Overview:
The Consultant position within the Nuclear Security Detection Architecture Unit is designed to provide specialized technical expertise and support to enhance the detection capabilities related to nuclear and other radioactive materials that are outside of regulatory control. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Unit Head and will focus on addressing the specific needs and priorities of various countries, ensuring that the nuclear security guidance and available resources are effectively utilized. This role involves a combination of technical assessments, project implementation, and capacity-building activities aimed at improving national nuclear security detection architectures. The consultant will also be responsible for drafting technical inputs for guidance documents and contributing to the development of training materials and missions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be expected to deliver technical input for the implementation of country-specific projects and activities related to nuclear security detection systems and measures. This includes conducting technical assessments and providing advice on Member States' nuclear security systems for the detection of nuclear and other radioactive materials that are outside of regulatory control. The consultant will implement Integrated Nuclear Security Support Plans (INSSP) based on the needs of Member States and provide technical input according to IAEA and international recommendations. Additionally, the consultant will contribute to the application of technical recommendations and guidelines relevant to nuclear security detection, prepare training materials, conduct missions, and deliver capacity-building activities. Drafting technical inputs for guidance documents relevant to nuclear security detection matters will also be a key responsibility.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in physics, nuclear science, engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the area of nuclear security detection architecture, systems, and measures for materials out of regulatory control is required. The consultant should have a strong understanding of national nuclear security regimes and detection systems and measures. Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, and knowledge of another official IAEA language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field such as physics, nuclear science, or engineering. This foundational knowledge is essential for understanding the complexities of nuclear security detection and the technical aspects involved in the role.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of professional experience in nuclear security detection architecture and systems, specifically focusing on materials that are outside of regulatory control. This experience can be gained at either the national or international levels, and it should demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of nuclear security measures and the ability to implement them effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in this language. Additionally, knowledge of another official IAEA language such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish is advantageous and may enhance the candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy offers a daily fee of up to a maximum of €250, which is determined based on the consultant's qualifications and experience. If travel is required as part of the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs will be covered. It is important to note that health coverage and pension fund responsibilities lie with the consultant.
