The Department of Operational Support (DOS) provides operational support to UN Secretariat entities globally, including advisory, operational, and transactional support services. DOS supports almost 100 entities located around the globe, ensuring effective management and operation of physical facilities and assets at the UN Headquarters in New York. FCAS is responsible for various services including property management, travel and transportation services, and archives management, among others.
Job Overview: The Programme Management Officer will play a crucial role in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the UN Secretariat travel consolidation project. This position involves monitoring and analyzing project development, reviewing relevant documents, and proposing corrective actions to address identified issues. The officer will also perform consulting assignments, facilitating workshops and assisting clients in managing change. The role requires extensive research and analysis of travel data, vendor interactions, and technology partnerships to support the consolidation project. The officer will prepare various written outputs, provide technical support for meetings, and conduct outreach activities, including training workshops. This position demands a proactive approach to project management and the ability to coordinate activities related to budget and funding, ensuring effective data-driven decision-making.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Management Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the assigned travel consolidation project.
Monitor and analyze project development and implementation, reviewing relevant documents and reports.
Identify problems and propose corrective actions while liaising with relevant parties.
Conduct consulting assignments, planning and facilitating workshops, and assisting clients in developing action plans.
Research and analyze information from diverse sources, including travel data and potential vendors.
Assist in the development of consolidation strategies, reviewing travel operational issues and data trends.
Undertake survey initiatives and designdata collection tools, analyzing responses to prepare conclusions.
Prepare written outputs such as travel data statistics, compliance analyses, and progress reports.
Provide technical support for meetings and conferences, including document preparation and participant identification. 1
Conduct outreach activities and training workshops related to travel data. 1
Participate in field missions, providing guidance to external consultants and drafting mission summaries. 1
Coordinate budget-related activities and prepare necessary documents and reports. 1
Collect and analyze travel-related data to identify trends and provide insights for decision-making. 1
Perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics, or a related field. A first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) may be accepted with two additional years of relevant work experience. Successful completion of degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is advantageous. An industry-recognized project management certification is desirable, along with demonstrated skills in relational databases (SQL) and programming languages (Python, R).
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in the specified fields with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted. Completion of programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is considered an advantage.
Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration, or a related area is required. Additionally, at least two years of experience in developing or implementing processes in a travel-related client service delivery environment is necessary. Experience in supporting the consolidation or transformation of travel or administrative service delivery across multiple offices or locations is also required.
Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, proficiency in English is required, with a minimum level of proficiency as per the UN Language Framework. Knowledge of French is considered an asset but is not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This position is funded by extra budgetary funds, and the appointment is for an initial period of one year, subject to the availability of funds.
