Job Overview:
The Research Officer position within the Development Macroeconomics Division (DMD) of the IMF's Research Department is a critical role that involves engaging in research projects that are pertinent to the division's objectives. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and application of economic models to specific country cases, focusing on significant areas such as climate adaptation, energy transition, public investment, and fiscal policy. The outputs of this role will typically include the creation of practical toolkits, comprehensive research papers, and contributions to policy discussions. The position requires a strong analytical mindset and the ability to translate complex economic concepts into actionable insights that can inform policy decisions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Research Officer include but are not limited to: conducting in-depth research on macroeconomic issues relevant to development; developing and applying economic models to analyze country-specific cases; collaborating with other economists and researchers within the IMF to produce high-quality research outputs; preparing reports and presentations that summarize research findings and policy implications; contributing to the development of toolkits that assist policymakers in implementing effective fiscal and economic strategies; staying updated on global economic trends and their implications for development; and participating in discussions and meetings with stakeholders to present research findings and recommendations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong educational background, typically acquired through the completion of an advanced university degree in economics, finance, statistics, computer science, or a related field. Alternatively, a university degree supplemented by a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience is acceptable. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical, quantitative, and computer skills, alongside a superior academic record. Excellent command of the English language, both written and oral, is essential. Familiarity with software packages such as Stata, Python, Matlab, and Dynare is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in economics, finance, statistics, computer science, or a related field. Candidates with a university degree supplemented by significant professional experience will also be considered. The emphasis is on having a solid foundation in quantitative analysis and economic theory, which is critical for the research tasks associated with this role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience in economic research or analysis.
