Job Overview:
The position of Senior Officer or Lead Officer for the Financial Markets and Products Legal Division (FML) within the Legal Department is crucial for providing legal support on non-sovereign guaranteed operations throughout the transaction cycle. The Legal Department advises Management, the Board of Executive Directors, and the Board of Governors on all legal matters related to IDB Invest. The selected candidate will be responsible for leading the delivery of legal services in FML, focusing on private sector and non-sovereign-guaranteed transactions with financial intermediaries and financial markets. This role requires overseeing lending and guarantee transactions, technical assistance operations, and providing legal advice on institutional and financial matters. The candidate will also be expected to mentor a diverse group of attorneys, manage relationships with external legal counsel, and contribute to the formulation of model documentation and legal strategies that enhance service delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The main functions and responsibilities of the Senior Officer or Lead Officer include leading the delivery of legal services in FML, overseeing various transactions, and mentoring a team of attorneys. Specific duties involve conducting due diligence, structuring, negotiating, drafting, and closing transactions, as well as managing portfolio administration and workouts. The candidate will also provide legal support for a range of institutional matters, represent the Legal Department in meetings, and collaborate with other legal teams and departments within IDB Invest. Additionally, the role requires keeping abreast of legal trends and making recommendations for standardized approaches, as well as developing innovative legal solutions that meet business needs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in Law (LL.M., Juris Doctor, or equivalent) from an accredited law school in an IDBG member country, along with admission to practice law in at least one jurisdiction in an IDBG member country. A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in private cross-border financing transactions is required, with 8 years preferred. Experience in a senior role at a reputable law firm or development bank, strong client relationship skills, and a deep understanding of the legal environments in Latin America and the Caribbean are essential. Substantive legal experience in both common and civil law is also required, along with a validated track record in structuring complex transactions.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's Degree in Law (LL.M., Juris Doctor, or equivalent advanced law degree) from an accredited law school in an IDBG member country. Candidates must also be admitted to practice law in at least one jurisdiction within an IDBG member country, ensuring they have the necessary legal qualifications to perform the duties of the role effectively.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of progressive experience in private cross-border financing transactions, with a preference for candidates who have 8 years of experience. The ideal candidate should have experience in a senior role within a top-tier New York or English law firm or a development bank, demonstrating strong client relationship skills and a comprehensive understanding of the legal environments in the countries where IDB Invest operates. Experience in structuring complex transactions and managing portfolios is also essential.

Languages:
Excellent oral and written professional proficiency in English and Spanish is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Portuguese and/or French is considered a plus, as it may enhance communication and collaboration with stakeholders in various regions.

This position is classified as an international staff contract, initially lasting for 36 months, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement.
