Job Overview: The Programme Analyst position at UN Women is crucial for the development and implementation of effective programs aligned with UN Women’s rules and regulations. Reporting to the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund Program Manager, the Programme Analyst will work closely with the Programme Team to provide support in various areas including research, financial management, and program implementation. The role involves contributing to the design and formulation of program/project proposals related to the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF), ensuring that the initiatives are effectively managed and aligned with the strategic goals of UN Women. The successful candidate will also be responsible for monitoring program activities, providing technical assistance to partners, and ensuring that the implementation of programs is in accordance with established guidelines and standards. This position requires a collaborative approach, working with various stakeholders including operations, program, and project personnel both in the country office and at UN Women headquarters to resolve complex finance-related issues and facilitate the exchange of information.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Analyst will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Contributing technically to the development of program strategies in the area of WPHF by providing inputs to the design and formulation of program/project proposals.
Supporting the implementation and management of thematic area programs by coordinating and monitoring program activities, reviewing financial and narrative reports from implementing partners, and training partners on Results Based Management.
Monitoring progress on program activities, results, and indicators, and providing inputs to quarterly and donor reports.
Overseeing budget implementation and program activity expenditures, performing budget revisions when necessary, and providing inputs to financial reports.
Contributing to building partnerships and resource mobilization strategies by analyzing information and maintaining databases.
Supporting inter-agency coordination on WPHF to ensure coherence and alignment of UN Women programs with other partners in the country.
Providing inputs to advocacy, knowledge building, and communication efforts, including the organization of advocacy activities, trainings, and workshops.
Performing other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, human rights, gender/women’s studies, international development, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A project/programme management certification such as PMP®, PRINCE2®, or MSP® would be an added advantage. Candidates should possess good knowledge of program management, including formulation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation skills, as well as knowledge of Results Based Management. Strong analytical skills and the ability to gather and interpret data are essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as social sciences, human rights, gender/women’s studies, or international development. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A project/programme management certification is advantageous.
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in program or project support is required, preferably in areas related to gender equality, women, peace and security, leadership, and governance. Candidates should have experience in supporting program implementation, coordination, and partner engagement, as well as experience working with civil society organizations, including women-led organizations and networks. Experience in organizing and supporting training, workshops, or advocacy initiatives is also necessary, along with experience in monitoring program activities and contributing to reports. Experience in fragile, conflict, or humanitarian contexts is considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, along with fluency in the local language. Knowledge of another official UN language (such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is desirable.
