Job Overview: The Associate Construction ManagementEngineer plays a crucial role in supporting the planning, implementation, and monitoring of infrastructure projects. This position is vital for ensuring that construction activities adhere to design specifications, quality standards, timelines, and safety requirements. The incumbent will provide on-site technical oversight, manage contractors, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure compliance with UNOPS and donor/partner standards. The role is designed to drive impactful infrastructure projects by ensuring quality, safety, and timely execution, which is essential for the success of the initiatives undertaken by UNOPS.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Construction Management Engineer include providing technical assistance and construction oversight by contributing to project work plans, drawings, and specifications during the design and procurement stages. The engineer will monitor on-site construction activities to ensure compliance with design standards and contractual obligations, conduct quality inspections, verify material compliance, and monitor safety and environmental standards. Additionally, the role involves resolving technical and operational issues in coordination with contractors and project managers, verifying contractor progress, preparing and reviewing Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs), and ensuring accurate documentation for disbursement. The engineer will also be responsible for maintaining regular coordination with end-users, contractors, consultants, and local authorities, organizing project meetings, and preparing minutes and tracking action items. Monitoring progress, reporting deviations against approved schedules, and assisting in preparing technical and progress reports are also key responsibilities. Furthermore, the engineer will support project administration, procurement, and logistics, maintain accurate records of project documents, and contribute to knowledge building and sharing initiatives.
Required Qualifications: The position requires either a secondary school education with six years of relevant experience or a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related disciplines with two years of relevant experience. A recognized professional certification or membership in a civil, structural, or construction engineering association is desirable but not mandatory. The qualifications emphasize the importance of both educational background and practical experience in the field.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a secondary school diploma or equivalent with significant relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
