Duties and Responsibilities: The duties of the Senior Driver include: driving UNHCR vehicles for the Head of Office and other officials, transporting authorized passengers, delivering and collecting documents, and facilitating immigration and customs formalities. The driver is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires, ensuring the vehicles are roadworthy and meet security standards. In case of an accident, the driver must follow established procedures and ensure proper documentation. The driver will log official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, and prepare reports as required. Additionally, the driver may assist with basic interpretation services when an interpreter is unavailable. The role also involves supporting risk management and decision-making processes related to transport operations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid driving license and have knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Essential functional skills include basic vehicle mechanical skills. The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant driving experience, with a safe driving record. Experience in transport operations, movement control, or related fields is necessary, and supervisory experience in coordinating transport operations in Sudan, particularly in Port Sudan and refugee-camp operations, is desirable. Basic computer skills for managing duty rosters and vehicle assignments are also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes completion of primary education or a high school diploma. Additionally, candidates must have undergone driver training and possess a valid driving license. An Auto Mechanics Certificate is also essential for this role, as it demonstrates the candidate's ability to perform minor vehicle repairs and maintenance.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant driving experience, with a focus on maintaining a safe driving record. Experience in transport operations, movement control, and dispatch is essential. Supervisory experience in coordinating complex transport operations, particularly in refugee-camp settings in Sudan, is highly desirable. Familiarity with FleetWave for fleet and fuel data management is an added advantage.
Languages: For this position, knowledge of English is mandatory, along with the UN working language of the duty station if it is not English. For General Service jobs, knowledge of English and/or the UN working language of the duty station is required. Proficiency in local languages is considered beneficial but not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This position is classified under the General Service category and is a regular assignment. The role is based in Port Sudan, which is designated as a hardship location (E level).
