Job Overview:
The position of Assistant Director, Communications Office at INTERPOL involves implementing the communications strategies and work programs of the Communications Office. The role requires overseeing activities to ensure effective resource provision and service delivery. The Assistant Director will work under the supervision of the Director of Communications, aligning the office's activities with the organization's priorities and program strategies. This includes ensuring that information is communicated effectively to various stakeholders, including policymakers, the media, and the general public. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for managing a team, developing communication materials, and promoting organizational initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implement communications strategy and oversee activities: Align communications activities with organizational priorities, ensuring effective information dissemination to stakeholders. Plan and manage communication programs, maintaining accountability and measurable results. Identify opportunities to support organizational initiatives and develop promotional materials.
  • Manage the communications team and budget: Assist in policy development, mentor staff, and coordinate efforts for integrated communication programs. Oversee logistical aspects of communications materials and budget management, including developing a cross-charging mechanism for externally funded projects.
  • Deliver effective communications activities: Coordinate internal communication strategies, support dissemination of information about key initiatives, and foster collaborative relationships with other departments. Ensure effective workflow within the Communications Office across various programs and services.
  • Provide communications policy guidance and advice: Ensure delivery of communication program guidelines and quality control for various events and activities.
  • Position INTERPOL for strategic engagement: Identify issues to position INTERPOL effectively, articulate policies and priorities, and develop communications activities tied to funding opportunities. Build relationships with professional counterparts and community organizations through joint initiatives.
  • Carry out other duties as directed by the Director of Communications or designate.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least five years of university education in communications, journalism, marketing, international relations, or a related field. A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public information, journalism, marketing, or international public relations is required, preferably within a law enforcement or security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security context. Experience in managing and motivating teams, project management, and planning complex tasks with minimal supervision is essential. Strong leadership qualities and interpersonal skills are also required, along with proficiency in using various software tools for presentations and documentation.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a minimum of five years of university education, with a specialization in communications, journalism, marketing, international relations, or a related field. Advanced degrees such as a Master's or Doctorate are preferred, as they provide a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in international communications and public relations.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in relevant fields such as communications, public information, journalism, marketing, or international public relations. Candidates should have experience in a law enforcement or security context, ideally within a large governmental, intergovernmental, or international organization. Proven experience in managing teams and projects is crucial, as is the ability to work independently and handle complex tasks with minimal supervision.

Languages:
Professional fluency in English is mandatory, with strong writing and speaking skills. A working knowledge of French is advantageous, while knowledge of other official INTERPOL languages such as Arabic and Spanish is desirable. This multilingual capability is essential for effective communication within the diverse international environment of INTERPOL.

Additional Notes:
The position is a secondment role with a duration of 36 months. Candidates must ensure that their home Administration/Agency/Service/Government agrees to the conditions of secondment, including salary, benefits, and other related costs.
