Job Overview:
The Senior Fingerprint Examiner position is crucial within INTERPOL's Fingerprint Unit, which specializes in human identification through fingerprint analysis. The role involves expert-level duties under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Fingerprint Unit. The Senior Fingerprint Examiner will be responsible for processing fingerprint data, providing expert training both in-house and externally, and managing special projects. This position requires a commitment to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of fingerprint databases and ensuring that the unit can respond to requests 24/
  • The candidate will also play a significant role in promoting the fingerprint services offered by INTERPOL to member countries and participating in various working groups and conferences.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Fingerprint Examiner will perform a variety of duties, including:
  • Performing fingerprint comparison and identification (50% of the role) by preparing, entering, and comparing fingerprints using the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). The examiner will prepare findings for presentation and may testify as an expert witness regarding fingerprint evidence.
  • Maintaining the AFIS latent fingerprint database, ensuring compliance with INTERPOL's data retention rules, and managing fingerprint records and files, including filing and deletion processes.
  • Providing 24/7 support as part of the Incident Response Teams (IRT) for fingerprint duties and expertise.
  • Conducting staff training in latent mark identification (10% of the role), which includes creating training manuals and organizing training sessions for fingerprint staff from member countries.
  • Promoting the fingerprint services by organizing meetings on AFIS capabilities, sharing success stories with member countries, and preparing presentations for various forums (30% of the role).
  • Managing special projects assigned by the Coordinator and representing the Coordinator in their absence (10% of the role).
  • Performing any other duties as required by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of three to four years of education at a university or specialized higher education institution. Additionally, at least three years of relevant experience in fingerprint analysis is required, with management experience being beneficial. If the candidate does not meet the educational requirements, a total of ten years of experience in the field is necessary. Strong communication skills, both written and oral, are essential, particularly for public speaking and delivering presentations.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes three to four years of higher education at a university or specialized institution. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of fingerprint analysis and the technologies involved in the field.

Experience:
The position requires at least three years of experience in fingerprint analysis or related fields. If the candidate lacks the requisite educational background, they must have a minimum of ten years of experience in the area. Experience in management roles is advantageous, as the position may involve overseeing training and project management.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in a second official working language of INTERPOL, such as Arabic, French, or Spanish, is considered an additional asset. Strong communication skills are necessary for effective interaction and presentation delivery.
