Job Overview:
The AMR Technical Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) activities under the STRIDES Jordan Activity. This position involves working closely with the AMR & IPC Advisor to provide both technical and operational support across various AMR workstreams. The officer will assist in developing AMR-related tools and materials, coordinate with government counterparts and implementing partners, and ensure that project activities align with international best practices as well as Jordan’s National Action Plan on AMR. The role is vital for strengthening AMR surveillance, capacity building, donor reporting, and tracking workplan progress, ensuring that all activities are executed effectively and efficiently.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The AMR Technical Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties including providing technical support for AMR activities in accordance with Jordan’s National Action Plan on AMR and relevant national guidelines. The officer will support the strengthening of AMR surveillance systems, which includes data collection, analysis, and reporting at both facility and national levels. Additionally, the officer will assist in the development and dissemination of AMR-related tools, guidelines, training materials, and technical briefs. Responsibilities also include monitoring and maintaining AMR project protocols, instruments, data sets, manuals, and training materials. The officer will conduct literature searches on evolving AMR issues, respond to technical inquiries from internal and external staff, and support the implementation of AMR activities under the STRIDES Jordan workplan while tracking the delivery of outputs against agreed timelines. Ensuring that AMR technical implementation is consistent with best practices and meets donor obligations is also a key responsibility. The officer will engage with the Ministry of Health and relevant government entities on AMR surveillance and stewardship activities, coordinate with operations and finance teams for timely and budget-compliant implementation of AMR activities, draft technical progress reports, and contribute to donor reporting requirements. Furthermore, the officer will prepare and deliver presentations on AMR progress to project teams and stakeholders, and assist in developing proposals and AMR technical design documents as directed by technical leadership.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a working knowledge of AMR, antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST), AMR diagnostics, and antimicrobial stewardship, as well as familiarity with the Global Action Plan on AMR and WHO AMR core components. An understanding of Jordan’s public health system, national AMR landscape, and relevant government structures is advantageous. Experience in supporting AMR programs and government counterparts in Jordan or the broader MENA region is preferred. Strong organizational and analytical skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Proficiency in MS Office and relevant data management tools is required, as well as the ability to analyze and interpret AMR laboratory and surveillance data, identify errors, and prepare clear and accurate reports.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in Microbiology, Public Health, Laboratory Sciences, Pharmacy, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to AMR activities and support the overall goals of the STRIDES Jordan Activity.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience in AMR, microbiology, antimicrobial stewardship, or a related public health field. Candidates with experience providing technical support to AMR or health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security programs in Jordan or the MENA region will be given preference. Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization, government agency, or private organization operating in the public health or global health security space is also beneficial.

Languages:
Professional proficiency in both Arabic and English, written and verbal, is mandatory for this position. This bilingual requirement is crucial for effective communication with stakeholders, government entities, and team members involved in AMR activities. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
