Job Overview:
The Driver position is crucial for supporting UN-Habitat's programme activities in South Sudan by providing safe, timely, and reliable transportation and logistical services. The role is essential for ensuring compliance with UN safety, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, fleet management, and administrative requirements. The Driver will facilitate the efficient implementation of field operations and project activities, which are vital for addressing the complex humanitarian and development challenges faced in South Sudan. This includes supporting official travel, field missions, stakeholder engagements, and various programme activities. The Driver will work under the supervision of the Human Settlements Officer (HSO) and will be responsible for maintaining the vehicle in good condition while ensuring the safety and security of transported personnel and materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: driving UN-Habitat vehicles safely for the transport of staff and consultants, providing transportation support for field missions and project activities, ensuring timely pick-up and drop-off of personnel, maintaining vehicles in a clean and roadworthy condition, monitoring vehicle systems and reporting any issues, coordinating routine servicing and repairs, maintaining accurate vehicle logs and records, ensuring compliance with local traffic laws and UN security requirements, delivering and collecting official correspondence and supplies, and performing other related duties as assigned by the supervisor. The role requires a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance and a commitment to safety and compliance with organizational policies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess secondary school education and a valid South Sudan driving license. A minimum of five years of professional driving experience is required, with a preference for candidates who have experience driving 4WD vehicles in challenging environments. Knowledge of local traffic regulations, road safety procedures, and basic vehicle maintenance is essential. Defensive driving training and/or a certificate in auto mechanics is desirable, as well as basic computer and email communication skills. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and compliance with organizational policies.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a secondary school education. This foundational education is necessary to ensure that the candidate has the basic knowledge and skills required for the role, particularly in understanding road safety and vehicle operation.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of professional driving experience. Candidates with experience in driving in rural or challenging environments, particularly in support of UN, humanitarian, development, or donor-funded projects, will be given preference. This experience is crucial for navigating the complexities of the operational environment in South Sudan, where conditions can be unpredictable and challenging.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the UN system. Knowledge of local languages spoken in South Sudan is considered desirable, as it can enhance communication with local communities and stakeholders.
