Job Overview:
The Anti-Racism Intern position at UN-Habitat offers a unique opportunity to engage in global sustainable urban development and anti-racism initiatives. The intern will support the Anti-Racism Advocates in their efforts to address racism and racial discrimination within the UN system. This role involves contributing to the implementation of the Strategic Action Plan aimed at promoting dignity for all and addressing racism. The internship is designed for six months and is unpaid, requiring a full-time commitment of five days per week. Interns will work under the supervision of a staff member, gaining valuable experience in research, policy analysis, and advocacy related to anti-racism efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's daily responsibilities will vary based on their background and the specific office to which they are assigned. Key duties include supporting the Anti-Racism Advocates, conducting research and analysis on UN policies regarding discrimination and racism, providing advice on the interpretation of the SG’s strategic action plan, drafting and reviewing policy documents, assisting in the organization of trainings and events, maintaining a resource library, and supporting the design and administration of surveys on racism and discrimination. The intern may also be tasked with additional duties as assigned by their supervisor, contributing to the overall mission of UN-Habitat.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level), or have graduated with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required, along with a demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals. Candidates should also exhibit the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing tolerance for differing opinions.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), communications, international development, urban development, management and administration, or other social sciences is preferred. While professional work experience is not mandatory for applicants to the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is essential. Candidates must be students in their final year of a first university degree, or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs. Proof of eligibility must be provided with the application.

Experience:
While prior professional work experience is not required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant knowledge, skills, and capacity to support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. The internship is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and contribute to research projects, showcasing strong analytical and critical thinking skills, as well as attention to detail.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this internship position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN language, such as French, is desirable and can enhance a candidate's application.
