Job Overview:
The Data Analyst position is crucial for the implementation of the 'Vida Nova no Morro' project, which aims to support sustainable urban development in informal settlements in Niterói, Brazil. The role involves close collaboration with UN-Habitat’s operational and technical teams to develop and manage data systems that inform social housing policies. The Data Analyst will be responsible for analyzing data from public databases, creating georeferenced information, and generating thematic maps to support urban planning and community engagement. The position requires a strong focus on evidence-based planning and the ability to communicate complex data insights effectively to various stakeholders. The Data Analyst will also participate in capacity-building activities and contribute to the overall objectives of the project, ensuring that urban development initiatives are inclusive and responsive to the needs of vulnerable populations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Data Analyst will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: developing and validating variables and indicators; extracting and analyzing data from public databases; creating georeferenced information; processing spatial analysis and generating thematic maps; managing geospatial data quality; supporting research on favelas; revising documents related to spatial data; organizing capacity-building activities; providing technical support for data management; documenting expert meetings; ensuring timely delivery of tasks; and participating in missions as required. The role also involves maintaining an organized information file related to project activities and ensuring compliance with UN security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Economics, Urban Studies, Architecture, Public Policy, Sociology, Political Science, Statistics, or related fields. A postgraduate degree in relevant areas is desirable. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in urban project management, data analysis, and public policy reporting. Proficiency in data visualization and experience with GIS software are essential, along with strong organizational and communication skills.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, with a preference for candidates holding a postgraduate degree. The educational background should include coursework or training in data analysis, urban studies, or related disciplines that equip the candidate with the necessary skills for the role.

Experience:
The position requires at least four years of relevant experience in project management related to urban themes, particularly in Brazil. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in data analysis, public policy reporting, and working with urban development projects. Previous experience within the UN system is considered an asset, as is familiarity with the challenges faced in informal settlements.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, given the local context. Proficiency in English and Spanish is desirable, as these are working languages of the UN Secretariat and the Regional Office, respectively. Strong communication skills in these languages will facilitate collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The contract is for a duration of ten months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The position is classified under LICA, UNOPS, and includes health insurance. It is important to note that this position is open only to Brazilian nationals or candidates with a permanent visa in Brazil. The consultant must be available for travel within the country as required by the project.
